Heya, meant to post this for a while now but I've had Account issues.
Looks like WotC removed the "Children of the Nameless" Free ebook by Brandon Sanderson from Mothership. The now has a message saying it will be available in print soon. Apparently some of the proceeds will go to charity but Sanderson appears to be a little unhappy about it and it might influence his willingness to write similar content for Wizards.
I'm kinda disappointed with this, I'd be okay with a print copy being made but just leave the free pdf up. The people who would buy would buy and it would still reach out to the broader people some more.
I hope they don't lose Sanderson, I know he prolly couldn't work with them how he'd like but it was nice knowing a talent author like him was a fun of the game and lore which is something they really need to consider for picking authors.
The only positive I hope is Dav might be coming up in a storyline and they are trying to hype him.

Well, he does at least say that he's worked out an agreement with Wizards to have the ebook put back up (no specifics given as to when)... so I guess that's something, at least.
I really liked Davriel and Children of the Nameless, so I hope that if/when he does come into the main storyline he's handled by a competent writer.

I agree with all these sentiments. Dav is my new favourite black character. He fits the colour well despite not being downright sociopathic. He kills when he determines that such actions are necessary but for the most part, his greatest ambition is to be left to himself, his studies and his hedonistic lifestyle, rather than getting trapped in a cycle of ever-increasing tyranny and ever-escalating threat response.
Dav is trope savvy and he understands the weaknesses of his own colour (if it were understood as such). Ruthless, power-hungry tyrants can never ever feel truly happy, or ever truly secure. While he probably still struggles with some sense of insecurity (the demons in his employ are most definitely not his friends and he would almost do anything to keep his pursuers at bay) overall Dav seems to have a far better quality of life than most black-aligned characters due to the management of his own expectations.
Creatures and characters that are colour-aligned often find points of contention or even conflict with others of the same colour and I think for many point-of-view characters in MtG, this is what causes them to be 'heroic' varients of their colour as opposed to neutral or antagonistic examples.
On Kaladesh, Gideon often felt frustrated towards Chandra due to her impulsivity and inability to objectively see the big picture for the sake of the group or even multiverse, but he also recognized a propensity within himself to be overbearing and controlling and understood, no, accepted, how characters motivated by different values are impacted by these same propensities. Dovin Baan and Nahiri on the other hand, while perhaps well-intentioned, represent characters that are more extreme in regards to the colour-aligned archetypes and ideas they represent.
While I am pleased with a print copy being made I do not believe it was ethical are right to remove the free version from their website. Especially considering the authors desires which were very much to the benefit of the fan community.
I don't even understand this. Just a few months ago they sang high praises on how their story is now accessible to everyone, now they're reverting back to novels nobody actually pays for.
I totally expect him to be in the 2022 Core Set, or perhaps a suppimental, non-standard set. I do not however expect him to be in any non-core, standard legal sets anytime soon as everythig coming out has been in the works for quite some time. He barely made it in WAR and that was only because they needed a new Mono B planeswalker with a discard theme, which Dav happened to fit perfectly.
Interestly in Maro's article today he talks about the struggle they had with trying to include a three-colour planeswalker before they settled upon Narset, and Nahiri as RWB was mentioned as a possibility. While this was a hypothetical exercize and doen't mean Nahiri is necessesarily in these colours per se, I think it does confirm the fact that WoTC still sees Nahiri as a revenge-bent and a possible antagonistic force. Black isn't necessarily evil I know, but it often ends up there and the fact that they considered it for Nahiri fortells her being in a dark place still. I totally expect her and/or Sorin to be antagonsits in the Zendikar Rising set, with thier grudge endangering Zendikar's recovery.
I know, grossly off-topic. Sorrynotsorry

When we learned more about behind the scene for the Bolas arc they said Dovin and Kaya had been created for the Ravnica 3/War of the Spark storyline and had been put into Kaladesh and Conspiracy Take the Crown to introduce them some before hand and I wondering if they did something similar with some of the other planeswalkers such as Dav, Yanggu, Vivien and Angrath for War of the Spark and future stories. Maro said Kasmina is a character pulled from a future storyline they decided to give a tease for. Sanderson said originally Dav was also a future character that was being in the process of being in a currently drafted story (wanna say they needed a mono-black character and rest was up to Sanderson) which might have been War of the Spark but might also been little intro set for a bigger story line*.
*like main set big not necessarily being big story arc.

If you don't know the book here's a good review. I'm a huge fan of Dav after reading it.

Edit: I tried asking Blake Rasmussen about it yesterday and while he did awknowledge the ask, I guess it's a question for another day.
