5) From a story standpoint Domri was a dumb reckless teen who got played by Bolas, out of the group of walkers for the war he was probity the easy choice from a story point to see getting killed.
Did he get played by Bolas though? I got the sense that Bolas didn't even know he existed before what happened actually happened.
He encourage Domri to take over the Gruul as apart of his plot to weaken Ravnica as a indirect agent of Bolas. Also since Bolas got planeswalkers to be his agents for Ravnica is pretty clear he was gathering some walkers to be on the plane already before he launched his trap.

I'm mostly disappointed because I think that Domri had a lot of potential for interacting with the story. There's something interesting about a dumb teenager raised by a Gruul death cult experiencing the wonder of Naya, and more than his beastmaster powers, I think, inserting the Gruul dynamic in the various other planes. Imagine a young Gruul anarch going from thinking how awful Ravnica is for nature, and then winding up on New Phyrexia. Imagine that disregard for authority showing up in Meletis on Theros, challenging the philosophers and being too dumb to be talked down to. Imagine the growth of realizing that the world is bigger, and you have the power to make a difference, and that your actions have massive consequences. Teyo and Jiang Yanggu are young travelers, but they're fundamentally good people, from what we've seen. Aminatou is both far more mature and far less mature than the other young walkers. Domri is a dumb teenager, and it'd be great to see him grow, I think.

Did he? Do you have a link? I'd love to read up on the details.
I just read the leaked info, and it's confirmed legit (photos exist of the book and its pages). The novel is unsurprisingly poorly written, with a lot of atonality and on-the-nose dialogue, but the worst thing about it is that there appears to be a *huge* inconsistency in the central plot point of the novel (i.e. the most important event of the story directly contradicts a crucial fact established on Amonkhet). However, since the mods won't allow me to elaborate, I'll just stop there.

Okay MAYBE that thing in "Finale of Revelation" can solve one of the plot holes... But was that enormous thing always there? On the meditation realm? Did it inflate recently?
Well looks like Kaya joins the gatewatch. Interesting to see how she interacts with the cast. From her oath quote it seems like she is having a bit of a change in character after being forced by Bolas to lead the Orzhov and being in the War.

In a hypothetical situation where Liliana's contract somehow got transfered to another that person shouldn't be able to die from it. If I remember correctly, if Liliana broke the contract she would be reverted to her actual age and die. So, if for example, Jace took the contract upon himself, nothing would have happened because he wouldn't suddenly age up, right?
Depends on how the contract is written. Could just be a “you forfeit your life if you renege” deal in it. While she doesn’t want to become a lich would be kind of poor planning on the part of demons/Bolas to not account for that possibility.

Well actually Bolas said she would age hundreds of years ina second, getting to ashes... though if they want to retcon this it wouldn't be that difficult, they might decide the ageing process is not related to the years the individual is actually old, but to a fixed number, just for fun... But frankly the plot is a bit bananas...
Long time listener, first time caller. The past few months I have missed the little short stories that would appear on Wednesday mornings. Just getting tired of WOTC doing these long story arcs and then being let down and putting the bad guy up on the shelf to possibly be used again. What is next, Garruck learns the error of his ways around the fire at Scout camp? The Raven Man turns out to be a tumor in Lili’s brain? New Phyrexia is turned into a bunch of ewoks? The squirrels really do run everything? I am just glad I saved $30.
obviously ugin potentially found the key to end bolas terror so that little ball around could have a connection to his spark after all and not just decoration
You know, when creative said a whole while ago that we will learn of the purpose of the gem eventually, I thought they meant an in-story purpose, not a narrative one. This particular (and kinda important) plot point could've used some foreshadowing or early establishment.
I'm not gonna lie, I was pretty hyped about War of the Spark, but with the recent reveals and leaks I feel... disappointed.
I’ve been riding a roller coaster of emotions today.
I had been so excited for War of the Spark. So excited to see this conclusion. I had been hugrilly following the card previews and unfolding story every day, and found myself truly invested in seeing how this ended, and eager to see the final story twists and fates of the key players. Never in years had I been so looking forward to a new Magic set. I got caught up in the rush, and dared to believe that this story would deliver a cool and worthwhile conclusion that would leave me feeling satisfied. It would be different than BFZ. It would surely be more satisfying than Ixalan, than Dominaria. I was truly excited to read this book and see the big payoff.
But then I started seeing bits of information. The book had leaked, and though I hadn’t seen the initial leaks, most comments from those who had seen them weren’t good. It seemed many comments were dripping with negativity and cynicism, and though I tried to avoid online spoilers, I bumped into just enough spoilers - and enough sneering about bad writing and the predictability of it all - that I found myself increasingly disheartened, disappointed, and disenchanted. “Depressed” sounds like hyperbole, but that’s close to how I felt earlier today. I finally decided that I’d been duped by my own foolish, naive expectations and that it probably wasn’t worth my continued emotional investment to hold out anymore.
So I bit the bullet and looked up the novel spoilers.
That's exactly how I feel. I was following the leaks from the start, and initially they seemed fairly disappointing, with some plot threads apparently dropped and seemingly random new ones thrown in. But as more details started coming in, it all started making sense, and I'm actually pretty happy with how everything turned out.
The twist with Chandra's Triumph is probably the best example of what I mean. When I first read that, I just thought "wow, that's really weird and totally out of left field." But then I found out why things happened that way and it's actually pretty brilliant.
4.) A few twists I had not seen coming — and this finale seems to deliver more than a few:
The true nature of Bolas’s gem, the role of Ashiok, the role of Lazav, the stuff about the Blackblade, the Bontu hijinks, the Invulnerability shenanigans… these were just a couple things that took me by surprise.
Do not do this to me I mean, where you found details about
the role of Ashiok, the role of Lazav, the stuff about the Blackblade,
, especially the former two? Can you elaborate? Because everything is left on the web does not cover this. Maybe in PM?
Same, please!
I've searched the web for hours and I found nothing new
The story is so bad for an ending to such a long story with absolutely no sense of loss. A war on this scale and only
three NAMED AND WELL-KNOWN casualties
Fixed that for you. Countless others died, we just did not happen to know their names. And the spoilers are quite limited to the main plot, we do not know who else (maybe even some Ravnica legends) will die as collateral victims.
I was personally counting on that Jaya will die heroically. Wizards kind of made fun of us, because almost everybody assumed this.
I was also personally convinced that Gideon's story will conclude on Theros upon the return there. So his death here is kind of surprising, but serves as the major hero loss.
And Dack...well, to be brutally honest...He was created for a comics series that was later discontinued, with apparently no intentions to return to (instead giving new comics to others). So I kind of understand they killed him off.
Countless nameless people had died but who really cares about them? Nameless bystanders die all the time in stories and we don't even know nor care about it because we follow the main plot and the main cast. It is the main cast that we, the readers, got connected to.
If someone told you that the Battle of Gondor was cheap because only one named and important good guy got killed would you really use the argument ''no, countless randoms had died also, we need to count them as well''? It is a cheap tool for the writer to use to get away with not killing the main cast and still creating an illusion of a tragic event and consequences.
I was looking for WAR spoilers and hoping to find any sources for GRN and RNA when I found an official article from the mothership where it was stated that wotc had hired some guy to check if there weren't any continuity errors. If I didn't know what happened in WAR this might have given me more hope that the story will be amazing but, judging by the spoilers, it seems like either that guy didn't do a good job SNIP or wotc just flat out refused to listen and ran with their own story (the second is more likely imo). It is a shame :/ I keep imagining how good this story might have turned out, the battle for the fate of the entire mutliverse taking place on my favorite plane, and it was just meh
Now I'm curious about the sequel! There aren't really that many loose ends to fill up nearly 400 pages (assuming that the book is as big as this one).
DO NOT DISCUSS THE STORY LEAK. Infractions will be handed out. The leak is due to possible illegal activity and due to such we are not allowing it on the forums.
According to the cards spoiled on mythicspoiler, Gideon dies and his soul goes to Theros, which shouldn't be possible because we were told that when you die your soul ends up on the plane where you've died. They are already setting him up for return lol
