Fair enough. I mean they did make an Esper Walker recently but eh she is in Commander.
And? 4/5 planeswalker from the first batch of walkers have shown up in the storyline and gotten second cards and I'm pretty sure Aminatou ended up being pretty popular as a character.
Dimir is I guess fairly open since dual color walkers are prominent then tricolor. Doesn't fit with the guild but he be different from Ashiok so that is plus. Still we got shocklands so its not like a Grixis Manabase is all that taxing if he is UB. Could make a cool UBControl Deck with him I guess. Still UB is weird colors if he is a Demonolgist so probably best off as monoblack. His theme doesn't fit Dimir or Esper that great. A quick says only 4 Demons or Devils with Blue exist. Could make more I guess, its pretty open after B and R. They could make Grixis I guess he did like the finer things in life and that fit Demon and Devil Summoner way better but WOTC doesn't want annoy Sanderson so he is probably monoblack.
Sanderson has said he sees Davriel ability to seal other mages spells as his theme more so then being a Diabolists, playing around in designs like Gonti/Nightveil Specter/Thief of Sanity.

I am saying tri colors are rare but Aminatou not in the main storyline and thus Esper is pretty open. I mean her card design was interesting and the other new walker looked pretty generic she had soft competition. And while she is another Human at least being a child makes her different.
"Teyo Verada wants nothing more than to be a shieldmage, wielding arcane energies to protect his people from his world’s vicious diamondstorms. When he’s buried alive in the aftermath of his first real tempest, the young mage’s life is about to end before it can truly begin—until it doesn’t. In a flash, a power he didn’t know he had whisks him away from his home, to a world of stone, glass, and wonder: Ravnica. Teyo is a Planeswalker, one of many to be called to the world-spanning city—all lured by Nicol Bolas, the Elder Dragon. Bolas lays siege to the city of Ravnica, hungry for the ultimate prize: godhood itself. His unparalleled magic and unstoppable army appear poised to bring the city to utter ruin.
Among those who stand in the way of Bolas’s terrifying machinations are the Gatewatch, Planeswalkers sworn to defeat evil, no matter where it’s found. But as they work to unite the other mages and mount a defense of the city and its people, the terrifying truth of Bolas’s plan becomes clear. The Elder Dragon has prepared a trap to ensnare the most powerful mages from across the Multiverse—and it’s too late to escape.
As forces great and small converge on the city and the battle rages, the stakes could not be higher. If the Gatewatch falters and the Planeswalkers fail, the curtain will fall on the age of heroes—and rise on the infinite reign of Nicol Bolas.
Since this text is used as blurb for the book, it is quite safe to assume that he will be the POV character.

I suppose that means the book is being written for non magic players? Otherwise I don't see the point of POV character. But good just what we need another human walker eating up screen time with all the walkers we already have running around.

Can we at least wait to see the character before writing them off immediately simply because of "Eww Humies" ? Like his backstory, plane and magic (from what we know) as is are both a lot more interesting then recent additions. All of these things are a lot more interesting than whether or not the characters skin is blue, or has tails and horns...
No not really the story has way too many characters as is. I don't feel its a good of limited page count to spend on a brand new character. This is not the story where we have time for some new Walker who just sparked to eat page count with Team Bolas and Team Gatewatch chipping in 14 Characters. I think the writer is fine, I like most of his cartoons but I have watched Young Justice and I got to say I do not think he has done the best job with such a massive roster there. Not to mention the average person comes in knowing the basics of most of the major villains and heroes there like Batman, Superman, Wonder Women, Lex Luthor, Darkside, etc which doesn't apply to any new person picking up this novel.
New story today, it was cute. I forget the Selesnya story exactly, was her father actually the person who was in the underground operation? I seem to recall thrull merging happened with him.

Thats what they hint. Nicky seems to have her own connected universe since characters from old stories pop up. It seems like the father was also slashed with booze during the Dimir story as well. It will be fun to go back and reread them and see if how they all interconnect.

We got another cute story, but all the stories are kind of the same and all the main characters have the same personality: a low ranking member of the guild has confidence issues but is trying his/her best to make it in the guild. It’s a brutal world that can be difficult to live in, but the main character is really a nice person who really wants to succeed. In the end, everything works out.

I'm just waiting for the Azorius story to inevitably come along and instead portray the main character as some laughable, incompetent lawful stupid - or even directly villainous - putz, because "gov'ment bad." It'd certainly fit the theme that MTG's been playing up in recent sets. (Seriously, when was that last set where the governing body wasn't either pointlessly useless, or actively corrupt?)

Have we ever gotten a body of authority that wasn't corrupt or useless? Magic lore never has the best track record with positive governments and religions in general.

As with most of the previous stories, I love this one. A society is defined by how the lower ranks live their everyday life, and the author has a very engaging, down to earth way of revealing important facts about the plane via these small characters. And, how I love her connecting different stories together, and a happy end for all of them. Despite not from the same guild, some of these characters managed to find camaraderie amongst members of other guilds.
Though I thought we're suppose to get a picture of the main character in all the new stories? So far we're missing Simic and Orzhov ones.
And, it seems people are not only having issues with their current guilds, they are also prompt to switch them, which may lead to a mix of guilds/guildless society in the future. What if there comes a 11th guild, that is a mix group with members of the other ten?

Human history doesn’t have the best track record with governments and religions in general, especially in the Middle Ages, which is what fantasy is based on.
However, there are some positive governments/religions in Magic.
-Benalia during the dominaria story.
-The church of Thraben during the first innistrad story.
-the selesnya religion I would argue isn’t corrupt. The Jeskai, Temur, and Abzan clans had their advantages. So do some guilds.
-In the first ravnica story the protagonist was a Boros detective.
Also, when writing fantasy often times you have corruption for conflict.

Onering's 4 simple steps that let you solve any problem with Magic's gameplay
Whether its blue players countering your spells, red players burning you out, or combo, if you have a problem with an aspect of Magic's gameplay, you can fix it!
Step 1: Identify the problem. What aspect of Magic don't you like? Step 2: Find out how others deal with the problem. How do players deal with this aspect of the game when they run into it? Step 3: Do what those players do. Step 4: No more problem. Bonus: You are now better at Magic. Enjoy those extra wins!
The Selesnya aren't corrupt per se, but their organization is way too shady to be a good example. The Boros are also particularly involved in the backstabbing politics this time around, so definitely corrupt beyond belief.
The Jeskai are also shown to be dogmatic and possibly manipulative in the Narset debut.

Every government that has ever existed has had some amount of corruption.
“Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.”
Also, a lot of governments and organizations have had some form of backstabbing at some point, so I’m not sure how the Boros backstabbing now makes them “corrupt beyond belief.”
Additionally, the hero of the first Ravnica series was a Boros detective who wasn’t corrupt. There will always be bad cops, corrupt politicians, and shady people. No government has ever been perfect and free of shadiness, especially in midevil Times. In fantasy when you write about conflict, you’re going to touch on these themes.
The word Utopia literally means a place that does not exist. Wizards will never depict a perfect world because that is beyond belief, not corruption.

First, nobody is perfect.
Second, you always seem to come down harder on white aligned factions, even for small things. Boros in this block has shown two instances of being backstabbing. The first was an elemental who didn't want to die and betrayed his guild, so that's not even against the Boros. The second was the Boros supporting the faction in the golgari that had just been overthrown by Vraska in their attempt to overthrow Vraska. This isn't even corrupt as it's in the service of the Boros goals. Vraska is a violent revolutionary whose goal is to overthrow the government. The Devkarin who the Boros support kept the Golgari peaceful and cooperative throughout Jarads reign and would do so again. Installing them over Vraska is shady, but it isn't corrupt. The Boros aren't doing this for personal gain, but in the service of their overall goal of peace and security on Ravnica. It's even less shady than it normally would be because Vraska is an active threat and she only just recently came to power by overthrowing a legitimate leader.
The Selesnya aren't corrupt, because their beliefs preclude corruption (you literally can't be corrupt when you don't believe in property, how can you take bribes?). They aren't as good two shoes as they pretend, and are willing to fight dirty as seen with the gruul story, but even then is that really not understandable? The gruul that were effected we're a group that was focused on expanding their territory by destroying everyone else's stuff. The Selesnya trying to push them away by doing the same to them and thus avoid the gruul sacking their lands is just defense. Otherwise, we don't see them doing anything shady. Even the quietmen fiasco was caused by the Dimir. The main problem with the Selesnya is that their way of life isn't attractive to most people. It's communism, hippy style, but effective because they have magic. Thankfully for Ravnica, their outlook is that they don't need to force conformity on anyone because their way of life is so awesome that eventually everyone will join up because they want to. This leads them to be rather non-interventionist.

There's also the Aurelia/Tajic/Rogue Firemane thing going on. And even in the elemental story it is demonstrated that the Boros throw their lot into a figurative trashcan.
Today's story is kind of tonally odd, not seeming to be consistent in regards to how formal the protagonist is or why a vedalken would explain why their bathsalts are dangerous to humans. But as it stands it is a nice closing to these stories.
