Seriously...go check the full spoiler. Why are there golden leaves in (practically) every fifth art in the set? Stacked. Blowing in the wind. Background. Foreground. Again and again and again..
Did they point this out or explain it as part of setting up the backdrop? If not...could it be a (very blunt) visual clue a-la-Shadows Block?
They mentioned Ravnica is indeed in autumn this time around. The reasons they said they did this was to give was more diversity and world building to Ravnica (I personally enjoying seeing what the guilds fall costumes are looking like) and because they wanted a dark gloomy film noir feel, the natural autumn darkness, fog and rain help establish this tone.

It is a purposeful art direction and theme announced long ago. Ravnica Allegience will be in winter.
Is this confirmed?
Anyway, I am loving the autumn/gloomy/rainy feel. It REALLY helped to make the feel distinct from the previous two visits. And in some cases (I am looking at you, Trostani Discordant) the autumn even helped to convey the bad things happening. Because if your chief dryads look like withered wood and their leaves are falling....

Its a seasonal block, Autumn being Bolas arrival, Winter the apex of his power and Spring his death.
Pretty ironic too, since he thinks of himself as the sun.
Yeah, but have they said anywhere that Allegiance is winter? Because the spoiled Allegiance images for (shock?)lands does not seem winter-y at all (Stomping Ground and Hallowed Fountain, the rest are indoors).

I think the Azorius land art has actual snow; its certainly hard to tell with the Orzhov one since its indoors and the Gruul and Rakdos ones naturally are perpetually hot.

You think it has snow in it.
And you think Allegiance is winter.
In other words, there is no official statement on this, that I asked about. Right?

This is the sort of thing I appreciate. Nice thematic touches give the story an extra oomph, and too often the stories coming out lack a sense of time. The seasons help with both.

Onering's 4 simple steps that let you solve any problem with Magic's gameplay
Whether its blue players countering your spells, red players burning you out, or combo, if you have a problem with an aspect of Magic's gameplay, you can fix it!
Step 1: Identify the problem. What aspect of Magic don't you like? Step 2: Find out how others deal with the problem. How do players deal with this aspect of the game when they run into it? Step 3: Do what those players do. Step 4: No more problem. Bonus: You are now better at Magic. Enjoy those extra wins!

*sings* It's Spring Time, for Bolas on Ravnica! *sings*
Kinda funny, since I've been comparing the Golgari and Izzet (and any future guilds) to the Vichy government.
Anyway, it's entirely possible there will be a winter motif, due to the whole "winter is hardship" motif in Western fantasy. But I don't think it'll end with spring. Not enough time, unless Ravnica's years are really short.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!

It depends on the pacing of the story. If Ravnican seasons are comparable to real seasons, then its only 3 months each. This set alone we see a number of story points, we know Niv disappears, we know Isperia sees a rising threat and calls a conference of guild leaders, and we know she is murdered (probably at the meeting, but at least after). This could all happen early in Autumn, with a quick conference called and convened where she's murdered, ending the set story, taking a month or so and leaving the next set still in Autumn, and setting the third one up for Winter. We could even see each set be a month, with the third set ending with Bolas' victory as winter falls on Ravnica (I think Bolas will lose, but there's still a chance he comes out with a win here). Or, alternatively, this could all play out over a few months, with Isperia getting killed just as Winter arrives, setting the next set up to be a winter set and the third set up to end with Spring returning after Bolas' defeat. Basically, Isperia gets Kevan Lannistered with Vraska as Varys, then the last act is mostly in winter but ends with a promise of spring.

Invasion took many years in storytime, so I would imagine a conflict with Bolas would last for half an year, to drive home how massive it is.
The Invasion part of Invasion block lasted a couple of months. The whole Phyrexian invasion of Invasion block about one year. I think you got the "many years" from the same source as the winter in Allegiance

I think it makes more sense to have Ravnica be Autumn, and then we go to a Viking/Norse set for Winter, and then we go to Theros for Spring where Elspeth gets rescued from the underworld.

Didn't the whole Weatherlight Saga take (Not including Urza's Block) place within a year's time?
The Tempest Block took several months. Let's be generous and say four.
The Masques block also took several months. Let's likewise be generous and say four (Prophecy took place concurrently with Mercadian Masques and Nemesis.)
The Invasion block also took place over 3-4 months or so, with Apocalypse taking place in a week's time at most. Maybe in as little as three days.
Anyway, I can't help but wonder how they're going to cover Bolas' invasion of Ravnica, his conquest of the plane, the execution of his grand plan, the Big Planeswalker Throwdown, the culmination of the Gatewatch character arcs, and Bolas's (presumed) defeat all in one set. It's so much story that it's getting two whole novels... but only one expansion? How on earth are they going to pull that off? Unless Bolas invades during Allegiances...?
