I didnt even think about the baby planeswalking, i thought it just did an invisibility spell, since they were mentioned a few times before in the story. It would be interesting if it was a pw, but I am not so sure.
I don't have the story in front of me at this moment, but the way the baby is described as reappearing somewhere else in the room holding a strange fruit that had never been seen before indicated planeswalking to me. Dyfed did a similar thing, to prove she could traverse planes, by bringing back a flower from another plane.

Huatli couldn't bring food to Kaladesh, so nowadays it seems to be different from the oldwalker days

It could still be possible it was Lazav (in stealth mode) who took the child from the minotaur, put the child on the floor and gave him a fruit (in a nurturing mood). By the way I LOVED the image of Lazav on a dusty armchair cradling the baby on his lap. Nanny Lazav
Why would Lazav explain his plan when he was just going to erase everyone's memory anyway? It's a blatant conceit for the reader, as there isn't an in-character reason.

Surely it is. But is much clearer this way, and less subtle then how it would have been the other way round...
Perhaps to create a record, for if and when Merret realizes someone from Dimir got inside his head-this creates a record that can be revealed to Merret about his agreement to this arrangement, drawn from his own, original memories. Also, I am leaning towards a planeswalking baby-Lazav may well have done some spellwork and given the baby a piece of unusual fruit, but I do not think Lazav would have harmed the child, who is described as having arms covered in scratches.
So Guild stories are cool and all But when does the actual story start?
Im a little confused on what they are doing.
Do we have to read the book for the actual story?
Again filler stories are great and all but should be used just for that, filler. Like the last few weeks when we got Nothing.

Been a member here for over a dozen years. Playing since '95 just got lost in the twitch shuffle.

100% this. All that blank time could have been used for these stories. Then we could jump right in with the main story line along with the release of the set instead of having to wait a month.

The situation matches up with events we know trigger the spark. And after the extreme stressful moment, the baby disappeared. During the fight, the baby isn't crushed or anything, so it's unlikely to be just invisible. Then, it reappears with strange fruit and scratches that didn't exist before. Lazav's immediate interest in the baby thereafter makes me think that this is something he'd never seen before. But for the fruit, which I've been thinking about too after my previous post, signs point to a planeswalk.
I didn't read the actual comics, but this reminds me of the Marvel story with Apocalypse and the Twelve. He had to drain specific mutants' powers in that one, so it will be interesting if it works that way with the PWs he's looking to syphon from.
Have to assume he will start to succeed, to feel his oldwalker powers start to come back, and then it will all fall apart. Possibly with a secretly Jace-recruited Garruk slamming his axe into Bolas?
I'm not sure if the timeline matches up as far as Lazav having control of the Dimir and everything, but could this potentially planeswalking baby be Ashiok? We don't know Ashiok's plane of origin or age (or species, so it would be a bit disappointing if they turned out to be human but it's possible) and we saw Merret use nightmare magic during the story. I'm pretty new to following the MTG story so I don't know if there are any details that make this untrue, but it's a theory at least.

I think Jay pointed out when Amonkhet art was first spoiled that some of the denizens of the plane had the same shoulder guard as Ashiok, which made me think he was from Amonkhet. But the nightmare thing was kind of specific in this story. I don't recall nightmares being used like this outside of Ashiok and Theros and Innistrad, but then again, I don't recall many little things.
Not 100% sure on this, but I think Ashiok's magic is just more potent on theros (like lili's on innistrad). Can't find anything to reference it right now though. Anyway, I'm not sure he originated from Theros.
I like the story. It is kind of awkward that Lazav is the first person Merret thought of, consider no one had really SEEN Lazav before. Unless of course, Lazav wanted Merret to know certain things, and takes pleasure in warping his memory after. Lazav could obviously make people do things against their wishes, he had no need to make any offer but he did anyway, made two offers both declined but both ended up in his favor. That's the guiltless pleasure of being a telepath.
(Lazav probably knows the existence of 4th wall and was doing this in readers' favor. Hail Lazav! Hail Dimir! I obviously didn't say that because he urged me to.)
Then the question arises, why did Lazav monitors Merret's family? He hailed from a long line of spies but that's hardly worthy of attention, unless Lazav is capable of monitoring EVERY Dimir member via magic, and teleport to the spot accordingly. I'm inclined to believe that being an info-master Lazav could indeed know every intimate info of his minions; to monitor them and make use of them further. At least, that's not something above Szadek, Lord of Secrets.

I think it's a bad idea to put even MORE emphasis on Ravnica than what WotC already had. Ravnica is a solid plane with D&D worthy structure (Thanks to Azor), but there are other planes in existence, to break players out of the box.
Do all 8 planeswalkers from the Ravnica Mythic Edition have a part in the Ravnica story? Or is it all just marketting? (Is there a reason those specific 8 walkers were chosen to be in the Mythic Edition? Or could it have been any 8?)
So Guild stories are cool and all But when does the actual story start?
About 6 months after it should have.
I was interested in the story as the only worthwhile thing to come out of Ravnica, having a major showdown. But with how they're dragging it out with filler and smearing it across various inconsistent media, I've lost interest.
I must agree that I'm not looking forward how the story is handled this time at all. It's like the era from Alara to Theros with the books that wouldn't be available everywhere all over again.
Presumably they will exploit stuff like Kindle so acquisition outside of America should be easier...if you want a hard copy it might be difficult though.
There is something skeevy though about ending a story in a book series when the rest of the story has been free up until this point. I be fine if they started books again after Ravnica but this seems a transparent cash grab to me exploit interest in the end to a long running storyline by charging cash for it.

Now now, you haven't seen anything from the Simic guild, you should get something cool for your Island Kraken guy to use.

I agree, but I will be completely ok if they give away the ebook for free and the paper version will be a paid extra.
MaRo assured us we will be able to know the outline of the plot fairly well through Magic Story, but buying the books we will have another point of view on the story. He admitted though each installment tells the story, each will tell them in such ways that you'll gladly read them both to have a more complete view on the story.

That's marketing speech. Yes, I also got the gist of Theros, but that's from reading plot summaries. That's not what I'd call a great story experience.
I just reported what he said and, clearly, we will "know the outline of the plot fairly well through Magic Story". The doubt was about us not getting ANY PLOT POINT AT ALL from the site and I wrote what I remember he said.
Then again, obviously, what should he say? "Yeah fine, no prob bro, don't buy our supplementary products, we do them just to throw money... We live off dreams! Peace!"

No, that wasn't the point at all. The point the people you quoted made was that the entire gatewatch arc was distributed for free on the website, and the climax is sold for money. It feels awfully close to paid DLC that's part, infact the conclusion, of the main plot.
