Fair enough Jace roasted Azor and condemned him to an island for not doing his job plus meddling on other planes and yet he barely does his job so rank hypocrisy. Especially when Liliana gets a free pass because Jace and her use to bone. Not like she didn't slaughter plenty of people and meddle on other planes.

Don’t know if you missed it or not but since Ixalan Jace has had a pretty hard turn on Lili.
Ral
-It's stated that he noticed something terrible is about to happen on Ravnica and that he will do anything to protect it. This seems to further what Command the Storm already indicated, that Ral does not seem to be under control from anyone, as far as he is aware, which makes Bolas statement from Amonkhet even stranger.
This is getting frustrating, a bit of incoherence from the Wiz. Does he know or does he not? He can't possibly work for Bolas but not even glimpse he might be a pawn. He can't be that stupid. The only explanation here he is constantly brainwashed
Vraska/Lazav/Niv
-Nothing more then what we already know

This seems to further what Command the Storm already indicated, that Ral does not seem to be under control from anyone, as far as he is aware, which makes Bolas statement from Amonkhet even stranger.
Etrata
-She is not interested in what is going on right now on Ravnica, not even in the Dimir gaining power
-Her only interest seems to be, being the best spy in Ravnica
-She thinks of Lazav as the previous generation of the Dimir and longs for the day where his dossier shows up on her hit list
Izoni
-She is really just Jarad before he became a Lich, Devrakin Shaman with control over insects
-Interesting enough she relishes her position, whereas Vraskas bio states that the Devrakin have lost power
Tajic
-After he was arrested for his partnership with Teysa he was freed by Aurelia
-He now thinks that there is no peace to be gained between the guilds, as long as the guildmasters are uninterested in the rule of law
Aurelia
-Is now a bit less of a warmonger, she wants to bring the people justice, true justice not just the enforcement of law as the Azorius do it
-She wants a fair equitable relationship between all people on Ravnica
-It is indicated, that Gideon has left some kind of impression on her, which party led to her change in philosophy
Emmara
-She believes they need a replacement for the living guildpact and that all guild leaders should meet to discuss a peace accord
Trostani
-Order and Life are in a disagreement
-Order wants a peace treaty with the other guilds
-Life wants to focus within the strengthen the guild for what is to come
-Harmony remains silent
Thanks for summarizing. I had come to make this post and you already did
Yes, the whole Ral thing is strange. Either there is a retcon of the Amonkhet ending hanging in the air, or I do not know.
As for the rest: Aurelia's getting more reasonable explains why she was not manipulated into pro-Bolas, what I genuinely expected. It also fares bad for potential Feather returning, unless Aurelia somehow sacrifices herself.
Thumbs up for reminding that Jarad used to have control over insects. I wholly forgotten.

Interesting (if unsurprising) tidbit: Some folks from R&D were streaming MTG: Arena yesterday and accidentally ended up confirming (at around 1:04:30) that Dovin Baan is taking control of the Azorius Senate after Isperia's death.
Why do people think there is a retcon with Ral? It seems to me that he made a deal with Bolas that would let him lead the Izzit, and after he takes command he feels like he might be a pawn for Bolas.

Grats to Jay, this was sorely needed and I'm glad he got it. His write ups are top notch.
After reading what they had to go through just to recreate the map of dominaria I'm surprised it took this long to bring someone else in. This is a pretty big step forward imho for telling a more cohesive story.

The way they worded it is confusing and a bit conflicting with what they said previously. Will I or won’t I need to buy the novel to get the major plot line with Bolas and the various forces aligned against him?
And yeah congrats to Jay. They couldn’t have gotten someone better.

I’m still rooting for her to return in the last set, with a possible all-out war on ravnica they could need her and I want a conclusion to the Krenko side story
The part about the superweapons on the Izzet entry could be a hint that he is working for Bolas but without knowing it, maybe he thinks he is working for Tezzeret, but yeah all pretty strange.

This is interesting, so the thopter like objects on the new hallowed fountain could indeed be thopters. It would be pretty easy to get Baan to do the job, just show him a system that is falling apart and give him the opportunity to fix it.

Thanks to DarkNightCavalier from Heroes of the Plane Studios for this sick Signature.
Ugh on Dovin...seems like their throwing a character under the bus because he didnt bow down and worship at the Gatewatch's Feet...we should be able to have characters disagree with the Gatewatch without being made into Villains. Not everyone agreeded with or liked everything Urza did and they weren't all turned into Villains.
We don't know he's a villain yet. He's just working for one - potentially unaware.
I wouldn't be surprised for a battle royale to break out in set 3 and someone mention him just harvesting sparks and both sides just be like wait...I don't want to die. Then it's like 20 v 1 and bolas can't even walk to escape if the immortal sun is there. Fight wraps up a bit later after some red sorts and maybe 1-2 named characters bite the dust.
Obviously, the big question in all this is: What is Bolas's endgame? What does control over Ravnica get him that he didn't already have, in the grand scheme of things? And why did he need the Guildpact (or some other group of planeswalkers) to exist?
Crazy theory time - Nissa's vision back in Amonkhet implied Bolas will fuse the Immortal Sun with the Guildpact. I've been assuming that Bolas could use Azor's spark in the Immortal Sun to destroy the Guildpact (also a creation of Azor's power), but, inspired by mapccu's post above... What if Bolas instead can combine the two, creating a sort of super-Guildpact that will bind every planeswalker on Ravnica to his will? That would explain everything Bolas has done since the Alara block - he wants as many planeswalkers as possible to come to Ravnica, either in his service or to oppose him, so he can bind them all.

Antagonist and villain are not the same. We have no reason to think that Baan is working directly for Bolas. He is working with Tezz. Which is a reasonable explanation for Ral as well. We have no evidence that either of them have actually met with Bolas or have any idea what the things they’ve been working on are actually for. As far as we have evidence of they’ve only interacted with Tezz.
Perhaps by using Immortal Sun and the Law Magic embedded in Ravncia Nicol Bolas is trying to set himself as the “Guildpact” of the Multivere, therefore becoming his absolute master and perhaps that way recover his former powers. As I remember the immortal sun can empower the one who stands in it.
Congratulations to Jay for helping in continuity with Magic Story!!! The best encyclopedia for all Story!!!
Didn't Bolas tell Tezz to get Ral for him? He is also not hiding from Vraska so I don't particularly see why he hide from Dovin and Ral but not Vraska. Actually when has Bolas ever hid from a Planeswalker minion? Sarkhan, Tezz, Lili, and Vraska all know who they are working for or worked for...I see no reason why Dovin or Ral would be exceptions. Seems like wishful thinking on your part.
I mean he did hid from Venser but Venser was never officially working for Bolas...not to mention Venser was in party with two people who would know better to let him out in Teferi and Jhoira.
It’s about what manipulates an individual best. Distancing himself from Ral could be better because a massive, super-ancient dragon may not appeal to Ral’s planar loyalty, a core tenet to his character. From what we know so far Ral comes into power over his guild because Niv just sort of vanished into his research so, unlike Vraska, Bolas couldn’t dangle power in front of Ral and have him bite.
As for Baan it may well be that he’s not even a minion of Bolas at all. He could just be a minion of Tezz, ipso facto, sub-minion of Bolas.

Tezzeret : *poofs into Dovin's office* "Hey you know those Gatewatch guys who said no to helping provide security for you, then showed up to ruin your fair and cause a revolution? You want to annoy the crap out of them?"

More likely that Tezzeret threw Dovin under the bus by telling Dovin to follow him to a ‘safe’ plane should things go wrong on Kaladesh- that plane being Bolas’ meditation realm.

Over the next five weeks, Magic Story will be exploring the Ravnica that gets overlooked when the Big Story (not TM) starts cataclysmic upheavals and reordering the cosmic nature of things. These stories are about the people who make up Ravnica, who make up the guilds, and who sometimes don't get the attention they deserve when a giant, genius dragon tries to manipulate the fate of a Multiverse. There's more story to come, but to learn more about the direction of Magic Story and the constellation of what we've got coming up, check out this article from yesterday. Otherwise, enjoy this look at Ravnica.
-Its looks like they are waiting a bit later to do the main storyline. While this kinda sounds like filler, I'm gonna wait and see the stories detail.
-And today it looks like a Dimir story.
-Again wizards trying to show off more accepts of the colors/guilds, we have a Dimir agent who isn't evil or wanting power but just wants to help his family.
-Interesting looks like we might be getting more story only art with the art of the Dimir agent.
-I like the scene between the minotaur wife and the thief, funny and tense all at once.
-The pacing in this story went fast and hope it just for the need to add everything than a reflection on Nicky Drayden.
-Overall nice little story for the Dimir, I think it had a few telling instead of showing moments and pacing at the end but I like the world building for the Dimir.

Pretty solid story, I felt. I lean Dimir so I may be biased, but still, pretty solid.
Also, did we just see a baby planeswalk? And does Lazav now, if he didn't before, know about planeswalkers? For that matter, do we know when this story happens? What if the baby who planeswalked is a character we know as an adult?
EDIT: Also, congrats Jay. Bring honor to this house!
I didnt even think about the baby planeswalking, i thought it just did an invisibility spell, since they were mentioned a few times before in the story. It would be interesting if it was a pw, but I am not so sure.
