"These five Planeswalker cards feature characters Gideon Jura, Jace Beleren, Liliana Vess, Chandra Nalaar and Nissa Revane. Each of the cards in the Timeless Legends set was designed to explore the ties that bind present Dominaria heroes to icons of the past"
Chandra and Liliana are obviously connected with Jaya and Bolas, respectively. Nissa I see resemblance of Freyalise because of her ability and emphasis on restoration, and they are region focused (Freyalise to Llanowar/Skyshroud, Nissa to Zendikar). I suppose GIdeon and Serra both aim to help and protect people, and I love Nielson's depiction of Serra.
But Jace and Urza? I know he's the cover boy of MtG right now but that's kind of reaching. Besides, Urza was a very, VERY questionable persona, a self-serving bastard who has no qualm in deceit and betrayal, is it a foreshadowing of who Jace might become? After unlocking his true training from Alhammarret, after how sternly he treated his comrade, who knows if Jace would succeed Bolas in manipulating people? A grim future, but I'd love to see Jace becoming what he loathed the most: One with Sphinx mentality.
I saw, but there's no telling whether or not Jace would become like Urza. Cyclops from X-Men was very much against Magneto, ended up behaving like him.
