Since the Dominaria Returns chat has gotten huge, I figured it was time to create the official Dominaria discussion based on what we know.
The story begins March 14th and is written by Martha Wells, an award winning author with several franchise novels to her name (including Star Wars and Stargate). She is working closely with the creative team on her drafts of the story to get the characterization and canon for Dominaria just right.
The new commander 2018 product mentioned that they'd focus on PW's signature moves... perhaps there will be more followers of old PWs in new Dominaria, while the EDH product brings up their old tactics. Urza and Serra currently have the highest popularity and we've seen potential Serra's Realm successors at work, maybe there will be Urza's (non-academy) successors who would vindicate their old master's vision of Phyrexia?
What are those megastructures in the background of the Jonas De Ro Art and Art Book Cover?
The Jonas De Ro art is intriguing, but I'm pretty sure the ones on the Art Book cover are mountains. They look very similar to the hill that the castle is perched on.
From the io9.gizmodo article we also know Chandra will be in the story somewhere.
I'd be surprised if Josu doesn't appear somewhere in the story.

What about Ajani, who was supposed to be waiting on Dominaria for them? Did he grow bored and went somewhere else? Or maybe he got caught into some shenanigans and didn't make it back in time?
Something I only just noticed: the elf with the daggers has a set of leather straps around their left eye, kind of like an eyepatch without the patch. Paying homage to Freyalise?
Karn, Jhoira, Teferi, Jaya, Gideon, Jace, Lilliana, Ajani (where is he) and Chandra(where does she come in? Just for Jaya?) on a "Weatherlight" (is it confirmed that the ship they are on is THE weatherlight?
VS Belzenlok
Seems a little one sided? That Cabal better have plenty of minion backup.

Very convenient for Belzenlok to be here, especially since both Liliana and the Raven Man are tied to Dominaria in some way.
Yeah, I think it's been pretty clear Dominaria would be Liliana focused, and given that she has a last demon outstanding, it made sense.
Nicol Bolas is going to Ravnica, given the fact that she works for him it's very likely she's going there as well, there is nothing that indicates that she's going to Dominaria other then the fact that she was born there.

That, and the writer herself confirmed it, and Liliana's last demon is there. Also, that's where the Raven Man first appeared to her, and we still don't know who he is.
Unless you meant before all of what was revealed this week was revealed.

Yeah, if you want to take their word for it feel free, just remember that those are the ssame people who "confirmed" Edgar Markov created the vampires for selfish reasons and not to save his people, those are the same people who "confirmed" Huatli left Ixalan to travel with Angrath when she actually went to Kaladesh were she became friends with i forgot her name (sorry), and what i think is the most important part, the last time we saw Liliana the Gatewatch was either pissed with her or wanted her dead (remember when she betrayed them to go with Bolas just so she could save her skin? yeah), so if you want to take their word for it, be my guest, but i'm not stupid enough to do that again.

a.) Liliana didn't just betray them. She pleaded with them to flee, and they didn't listen, so she got desperate. Turns out she was right, and it's better to have her on your side than Bolas's.
b.) If you think they're lying about Belzenlok, who I don't even recall being mentioned by name outside that game he appeared in until now, then I don't know what to say.
What about Ajani, who was supposed to be waiting on Dominaria for them? Did he grow bored and went somewhere else? Or maybe he got caught into some shenanigans and didn't make it back in time?
I saw another Vorthos who have clarified that Ajani isn't in Dominaria waiting YET, but are looking for help BEFORE GOING to Dominaria to rendezvous...

- I mean, I thought with the first sneak peek images those flying structures are going to be a reference to the Realm that once was but for it to actually have a seemingly accurate Sanctum structure? what? How? ( Or is it THE Sanctum and the Scourge happenings were somewhat true (but then again IIRC Teferi has mentioned in the Time Spiral books that he hasn't met Karona, cracking much of those Scourge happenings that had Serra's Realm in it) ).
- Other than the Sanctum structure... what's making those structures float? Who has enough power to do that now? Did someone in Teferi's bunch helped of sorts? Or does Sursi have some weird gravity thing going on?
- I wonder if Gideon and Liliana are going to pass by The New Order of Serra... I mean, they're looking for a demonic/heavily black aligned entity and/or group after all. The New Serran order may have been alerted and/or doing something about the Cabal resurgence. Also, as much as I welcome Gideon interacting *with hopefully a sane religious order* I do not share that same sentiment with Liliana. ( No girl, those quips aren't entertaining in the long run... SIT DOWN. I hope someone clocks her in the New Order of Serra when she quips about her angel hate.)

It's almost certain they're of Llanowar, because Llanowar Elves have always* been depicted with an eyepatch/goggle over their left eye. If I recall my lore correctly, it was Freyalise who began wearing an eyepatch to honour their devotion to her.

That's probably a cabal member, and the cabal is run by Belzenlok. Since Belzenlok and Bolas are acquainted, there's a good chance he's working for Bolas like Razaketh on Amonkhet.
And just because the Bolas plot happens in the background, it doesn't have to be the focus of the story. I think showing off what the remaining oldwalkers have been up to and tying them in to the current story + Liliana killing her last demon so she is free of her pact (enabling her to take a stand firmly againstBolas, Chain Veil issues notwithstanding) can make for enough story. M19 can then focus more on what's happening with different parts in Bolas's plan (and Ajani/Ugin's) to set everything up proper for Ravnica 3 in october.

I don't know how many times I've looked at that Alpha Llanowar Elves art and not realized that that thing was an eyepatch (I just thought it was some weird abstract stylization, like mtg's older art tends to have), or looked at the modern art and not noticed the straps. Thank you for gifting me with insight on this day.
