I don't possess the art book, but reading this forum makes me wonder.... Why they write this artbooks with the glaring differences from the story then presented through the articles?! I mean, I can understand (however I don't) when all those inconsistancies between cards, precedent canon and the set novels happened, (like in Scourge) because the cards were created by the people at Wizards and the novels were written by some external authors... but if now the artbooks, the cards and the story all are created in house by Wizards, why there are all these discrepancies? It looks like if the different teams working on a set never communicate one another... are things changed just at the last minute, when the artbook is already in print? They change them a bit too avoid too many spoilers? Who knows...

I really wish these things get ironed out. I can handle some things not getting mentoned in the story, like how High and Dry came into being, but when we have two or more very different story path, it sends the message that Wizards doesn't seem to care about the story
EDIT: Looks like they address some of the inconsistencies with card art and the story (such as Sphinx's Decree) in the story, which is nice, albeit somewhat kludgy.
-So Huatli arc isn't done, gotta say its quite cute to see her exploring Kaladesh and befriending Saheeli
-The return of Saheeli! Okay she and Huatli are too cute together
-ANGRATH SEES IS DAUGHTERS (Rumi and Jamira) AND IM NOT CRYING T-T
-Take it as you will looks like the stuff they *cut* out like Sphinx's Decree was a false memories Jace put in.
-Vraska it looks like is now the head of the Golgari with Bolas having Jarad captured.
-Jace ends up on Dominaria and from what I can tell, lands on the Weatherlight 2.0 and gets sassed by Jaya
-Sum Empire wins and Apatzec and is now looking east to Torrezon. From what Maro and creative teams have said this is the hooks for Ixalan 2.
Overall good way to end stuff off, we have our set up for the retune set and I sure people will be happen to see we will most likely see Torrezon on the return and unlike Innistrad we have the loosen end tied up.

“There are no weak Jews. I am descended from those who wrestle angels and kill giants. We were chosen by God. You were chosen by a pathetic little man who can't seem to grow a full mustache"
"You can tell how dumb someone is by how they use Mary Sue"
Despite what people might still think of her, I liked seeing Huatli on Kaladesh and her interaction with Saheeli.
Also, I like that we're already being introduced to Jaya, and getting more of Jace and Vraska (poor Jarad though) before Dominaria comes in full swing. I'm not sure I approve of all the weird discrepancies between the cards and the articles being dismissed as memories Jace implanted into Vraska to keep Bolas in the dark, but whatever.
As for Apatzec, we kinda expected him to set his sights on Torrezon, and I feel there's too much reason from a story perspective to not return to Ixalan in the future. This time though, that hypothetical set would focus on Torrezon instead of the Ixalan continent, and we may get a second half of the Ixalan map with Torrezon and other missing locations on the first half to have the complete thing.
EDIT: Almost forgot to mention Angrath. I'm glad his daughters have just grown up, and weren't kidnapped, maimed, murdered or anything like that. The Multiverse is a dark enough place as it is, so having some happiness is fine by me. Also, based on the description of the place, I'm more convinced than before that his home plane is a Western plane.
Hualti - This is the least..meh I have been about this character and I understand that she would go to the place she saw before but...CMON you could have shown us a new plane, something Alien.
Angrath - *sets up a No Go zone for this plane* I don't care it is new, I don't care if it might be interesting..NOTHING ever happens to this plane, Angrath got a happy ending, with his kids okay..NOBODY TOUCH IT so it doesn't break.
Vraska - NOT JARAD NO, in retrospect though this is some genius..all those cards that had story keys that didn't show up in the plot? we probably should have seen this coming, and..Nicol Just threw one of the Major guilds into Upheval.
Apatzec - MEH don't care, going in without a Planned winner for Orzaca was a terrible idea. I understand they want to have an ARG and all but..it doesn't make for good plotting out.
Jace - This should have been the last POV, the story was really strong up until Apatzec..and ending with Jace would have set up ALL OF THE HYPE..which it did..until Apatzec killed it. The Editors should go to jail for the wanton murder of all of the momentum Jace's POV had going...
Angrath - *sets up a No Go zone for this plane* I don't care it is new, I don't care if it might be interesting..NOTHING ever happens to this plane, Angrath got a happy ending, with his kids okay..NOBODY TOUCH IT so it doesn't break.
Kaladesh managed to walk away without the plane being thrown into apocalyptic chaos, and nobody died tragically (Yahenni died, but on their terms). So I'm sure they can visit Angrath's plane without throwing it into the deep end.
As for Apatzec, I'm more interested in the plot hooks he's set up for a possible return than the character himself. Also we're still technically in Rivals of Ixalan, so I think it's appropriate to end it with the conclusion to the plane's own story.
Cool way of setting up Dominaria, with delivering Jaya and Weatherlight 2.0 right off the bat. and now we have to wait two months for the Dominaria stories to start up? bummer.
Huatl and Saheeli becoming fast friends is cool. and of course it totally sidetracks Huatl from returning to her homeplane. Like others hinted at, i would love to see both her and Saheeli as part of Tamiyo's story circle. they'd be perfect fits.
Kaladesh managed to walk away without the plane being thrown into apocalyptic chaos, and nobody died tragically (Yahenni died, but on their terms). So I'm sure they can visit Angrath's plane without throwing it into the deep end.
Lets not Risk it, Angrath got a happy ending, he no longer wants to set everything on fire..his kids are alive and he is still presumably married. Let's just leave that little corner alone. It is the magical Christmas land we all talk about lets not ruin it..Time Travel Rules..don't touch anything.

Heck, we're leaving Ixalan in pretty good shape too.
Anyways, loved the story. Excellent tying up of loose ends, with Huatli findinga friend, Angrath coming home (sniffle), Vraska getting her reward, and Jace winning physics forever. And boo, Sun Empire. Boo. I can't believe I rooted for you jackholes.

Are we still pretending that the winner wasn't planned? When the story reasons for this ending were so clear that people called the details of it?
The "voting" and geocaching was a marketing ploy. It was always going to the sun Empire and the next set was always going to be them invading the Legion. This was set up in stories released before the "results" were in. Not that I'm complaining about the outcome, it will be interesting to see the reverse Invasion, but this was the plan all along.

Onering's 4 simple steps that let you solve any problem with Magic's gameplay
Whether its blue players countering your spells, red players burning you out, or combo, if you have a problem with an aspect of Magic's gameplay, you can fix it!
Step 1: Identify the problem. What aspect of Magic don't you like? Step 2: Find out how others deal with the problem. How do players deal with this aspect of the game when they run into it? Step 3: Do what those players do. Step 4: No more problem. Bonus: You are now better at Magic. Enjoy those extra wins!

I think he was married but his wife is gone. "They were tall like their mother had been." She has never been mentioned so she probably died before he left to Ixalan

Honestly? It felt more like Angrath was put on a bus than a happy end to me.
They carefully avoided any kind of tension. Girls are fine, not even unpleasant suitors or anything. Forge is fine, pretty much everything is just as he left it.
Like they have no plans with him for the time being.
Even if they have no plans for him, it's nice to see "everything being fine" for someone for a change IMO.
I liked the story today. It hints at the future and solves some important issues.
We were never gonna visit Ixalan again without a return if Dinosaurs. They were popular, the team knew they were popular, to the extent that I don't even believe the company rigged or had to rig the vote- The Dinosaurs were that much of a hit.
At the same time- we also want to visit Torezzon and see what is happening there. This way Both sides can get what they want- a Torrezon peoples empathetic and centered set that still includes feathers, tails and teeth!
Am I the only one that thought Saheeli (while perhaps sincerely interested in Hautli and her world) had other motives as well when she took Huatli under her wing? I mean, this is the same Saheeli that was terrified of the endangerment that the multiverse and the knowledge of it would bring to Kaladesh. Taking Huatli under her wing ensures that she has a Planeswalking friend AND keeps the truth under wraps.
Red meets Blue.
So stoked for the return of 'a' WEATHERLIGHT!

yeah that kinda reeks of Scars of Mirrodin: they give you the illusion of actually having a say in the outcome, when it was determined when they first concepted the set.

Saheeli was quick to get Huatli out of the public eye, so I'd say it's a given that she wants to keep the existence of planeswalkers a secret from the general public.
Hypothetical person: But why? There's no Niv-Mizzet-type guy on Kaladesh that we know of.
Me: Well, hypothetical person, this is a plane saturated with clever artificers and inventors. If word got out that other worlds exist, it probably wouldn't be long before Rashmi's Planar Bridge isn't the only form of interplanar transportation that would have been invented on the plane.
I liked the story for the most part. I actually like how...normal? Angrath seems to be. Like just a small sleepy mountain village that participates via warriors or arms in local wars/feuds for centuries but is still standing. It's a testament to him as a character and I like that. Maybe someday we'll find out what happened to his wife. We have only one walker with a traditional family (tamiyo) who has adopted several children. Angrath would have had the second traditional family but his wife is longer there. Nahiri had a husband and family at one point I believe in the lithomancer, maybe she was just in love I dunno. I would like for thse types of civilian status characters to continue to impact and steer some major role players and characters. Not all, because magic thrives off of strife in the story...but it makes the characters relatable. When they impact and are impacted by just small relatable characters who don't need a card.
I get that Jace is a savant, but I feel like bolas should be able to figure out mental tampering pretty easily? I dunno maybe not as there are probably few if any in thousands of years who were alive or strong enough to try it on bolas before. Some pet peeve but I'll take what I can get, I like Vraska immensely. They've done a great job of getting me to like a flat character before now by making her vurnerable and strong at the same time. I'm very surprised he didn't meet with Ugin first. Sadness that nissa is not going to be carried forward for now.
I love me some Dino's and hate me some sun empire. Here's to hoping elenda solves her biz and can repel the attack in a return set. Granted it could be like 5-10 years down the road though before we get a return chance. I just hope it doesn't happen offscreen in like core set flavor text. That would be weak af.
I just kinda zoned out after Angrath's part. It's nice to see a nice, no-strings-attached, happy ending once in a while. I'm perfectly fine with never hearing about Angrath again (aside from more cute family stuff).
The Saheeli and Huatli interaction was cute too. More "planeswalker's first trip" moments would be nice in the future.
Huatli will likely return to Ixalan/Torrezon storyline, which means Azor might be part of it also. He's the type that'd want a unification of the world, perhaps as the supreme advisor of the emperor (mind controlling him).
How rare that the natives fighting back the Euro invaders, all thanks to the power of dinosaurs, surely Saheeli will build mechanical dinos that could turn five of them into a large humanoid construct?
I like Elenda and her crusade against her own church, with the Empire meddling from the other side she might topple the queen and lead the army like Joan the Arc... then burn on a stack?
At least Angrath is happy till his next adventure. Obviously he won't go back to Ixalan but sometime somewhere the daddy will bring home more souvenirs... after he killed the boys who'd woo his daughters.
If we return to Ixalan, I wouldn't be surprised to see Saheeli there. She seems like the type who'd want to see the Dinos she's never heard of until now in the flesh.
