Okay, wow this is terrible planning. Why didn't they either make last podcast or todays preview theme about Wizards? They can't tell me they didn't know the preview themes of each day one week in advance.
I also agree with you, Edgar being part-white is a bit of a stretch, but I let it slide given how little we know of him.
Eh, I can see it simply from the fact that Sorin has been black/white in every appearance he's made since his original card, and black/white vampires do seem to exist on Innistrad. *shrug*
I agree White wasn't a stretch for me. Plus people want to play their Sorins with Edgar. Edgar did try to save his people from famine too.

Yeah this is exactly what I was thinking. They need to actually plan ahead for this. Their scheduling makes zero sense.
But holy *****, UB Taigam, I am so hyped. I wanted old timeline Taigam so much more than new timeline Taigam. This is perfect. The only thing that would make this better is if his card grants delve to your spells (that's probably broken though, even with an activation cost).

Yeah, Khans!Taigam was generally more intriguing than Dragons!Taigam, but despite how content he seems to be in his current position, I'm not yet counting out the possibility of Dragons!Taigam using the old archives Narset discovered in an attempt to seize power from Ojutai. He's way too ambitious to be a Ral Zarek for very long if he has alternatives.
I am not sure if he is gonna be the Khans tineline one or if he defects in the Dragons timeline as well. Blake asked if this is a case of old Tarkir and New Tarkir but Alison said she thinks this is the new timeline as in the art you can still see his old Jeskai robes but the Jeskai have been extinct for 1000 years in the new timeline. I think maybe she meant Ojutai, since people still forget the names changed even now.

Yeah, I read that too. Before I was thinking that Taigam might even become the Jeskai khan in the new timeline when they inevitably bring back the clans (Narset is a planeswalker now so she probably shouldn't khan anymore). Maybe they can bring back red mana but still keep Ojutai as the leader. Wedges and dragons are both popular and they aren't mutually exclusive. I expect that at least one or two clans will regain their lost color but still keep their dragonlords.
If Taigam defects to the Sultai again though, he can help overthrow Silumgar which would be great.
Then again, they didn't sound very confident in the podcast so we may have to wait until returning to Tarkir to find out if the card is from the new timeline or old, since UB Taigam is in the Wizards deck that already got the podcast.
Honestly the way they've been giving us info on the legendary creatures through podcasts has been a complete mess. Tons of info is missing and what little is there can't even be confirmed but the source itself isn't even sure. Pretty frustrating if you ask me.
Hopefully we get the usual paragraph bios for each Commander in addition to podcasts because the podcasts tell us nothing about the two non-Edgar RWB vampire Commanders and the two non-Mairsil UBR wizard Commanders, and we don't even know whether Edgar is alive or which timeline the UB Taigam is from.
We've had planes with Greek (Theros), Egyptian (Amonkhet), Japanese (Kamigawa), Continental Asian (Tarkir) and Mesoamerican (Ixalan) inspiration. It'd be odd if they left one of the most pivotal civilizations to the Western World's development out of the action.
Reminder - This thread is for talking about the lore and flavor aspects of the characters on the cards, not the cards themselves.
And I'm criticizing the random characters because… there is no lore or flavor aspects about them to discuss - which is frankly the problem I have with them over past characters getting cards.
Give us a name and, if it's a plane we haven't seen before, a brief description of that world.
That would be great, but they're probably worrying about making things canon ahead of time. There's a decent probability that they would have to change/retcon some of them if the plane (or a similar plane that could feature those characters) is ever visited a Standard-legal set.

Yep. Planechase is a great example of this. It used up a lot of idea space and most of it had to be changed for a set anyway.
in past Commander sets, we've gotten brief explanations of the new characters. nothing substantial, just a paragraph-or-two-long breakdown of who they are and where they are from. and the majority of it comes from the inserts that come with the decks.
so maybe we should ask if someone that purchases the decks could post the bios from those inserts?

Not all of them, with regards to where they're from.
Unless I missed it, we don't know where Saskia, Tana, Oloro, Nekusar and so on are from.
Alison seems to be quite confused about Taigam. In my opinion, she is just talking about the original timeline incarnation - a Jeskai power-hungry scholar who defected to the Sultai. Obviously in UB colors.

Hey, call me crazy, but maybe someone who isn't even sure about the context of one of the legends shouldn't be the one talking about it in the podcast.
I agree with you, though. Seems more likely that she was just confused than them actually having Taigam switch factions again in the new timeline offscreen.
But I wish that they could get their ***** together for these podcasts. First the thing with Baron Sengrir, now this. These podcasts make it look like they have no idea what they're doing. Maybe they don't. Their podcasts are just annoying to me. They've given us more confusion than actual new information. Why can't they just sit down and write something, even if it's short, so that we don't end up listenng to a confused, unscripted mess?
If UB Taigam is wearing old Jeskai robes that perfectly fits Khans timeline since he was previously Jeskai.
Also white fits perfectly for Edgar because the whole reason he initiated the vampire curse was because he was searching for a way to deal with a famine.
Im curious about the story behind Mathes the fiend hunter. Fiend hunter would imply he kills monsters...but then he's a vamp..disconnect?
As for Taigam's role and Alison's lore knowledge i think its more that WOTC hasnt decided what they want to do w/ character/worlds yet so they dont want to get written into a corner. As such Luhrs cant confirm answers because the answers arent known yet.
