Just curious, have we established that Avacyn is an individual rather than a title? Many times when looking into things being restored it is a title or faith, so it could be the selection of a new holder of the title? Probably a bit off base no doubt, but when reading descriptions of the magic of Avacyn it just seems like magic pooled from greater sources of white magic, Angels have always been a strong source of white magic so maybe the angels of Innistrad create a collective of white magic and allow one select to be the bearer of it, thus the title is restored? Like I said it is a thought just off of the title alone, feel free to destroy my line of thinking at will.
Is it also possible that (if it is Avacyn) she looks like an ass kicking machine because the art could be for some sort of non-human Wrath of God? Which would still leave open the possibility of a happy ending.
Jace SHOULD be unbanned in modern. I hate all the people saying "JACE IS BROKEN OHMYGOD HE'LL TAKE OVER AND CAWBLADE WILL REIGN SUPREME AGAIN" when bloodbraid elf literally comes down after jace and kicks jace right in the crotch, takes jace's lunch money, and jace is left to bleed out on the sidewalk in agonizing pain.

Avacyn is a specific entitiy. She is refered to by name, not by title.
Agustin was the villan of the Ravnica block just from what he did. Though there were alot of lesser villans running around. One has to realize that Agustin had his hands in most things that happened during that block.

Avacyn isn't going to be a white villan.
I suppose that depends on your definition of Villain, but I think the best modern storytelling doesn't paint things in black and white, shades of gray make for the most interesting stories.
For example, in the Innistrad Viral stories, there was an interesting story about a church that was trying to help Werewolves that wanted to try and keep their humanity and prevent themselves from doing terrible things in wolf-form, so they chained themselves up each time before they'd transform. Sure, some werewolves relish in their wolf-form and have given over to their darker sides, but many are just neigbors, fathers, daughters, lovers, good people who happened to be stricken with this "disease" that turns them into violent wolves. There's some sympathy and human element there that makes me want to see them possibly succeed in overcoming their lycanthropy and be able to "beat the disease".
Now, if Avacyn returns and her solution is a complete genocide on Werewolves... is that heroic, or villainous? Or just somewhere in between?

Yep. And whilst Augustin was technically Blue-White, his goal and character reflect more White than Blue.
Also, what about those guys in the Order of Heliud?
Now while I once said before that White needed more fanatical villains, I actually wouldn't want it on Innistrad, least of all through Avacyn. If it had to be done though, I'd rather they just create a schismatic faction in Avacyn's Church.

I think you need to view it both ways. I think the problem comes when people just make two factions and try to make one side too villainous. That's how black-and-white storytelling gets cliche.
On one hand, I don't like how people are wishing the supposed religious/benevolent figure (in this case, Avacyn) winds up being the actual villain (which sounds just like another repeat of Ravnica). On the other hand, I still would love to see a redemptive side to Innistrad's monsters.
You've demonstrated how werewolves can have a positive side. There's also the case of that ghoulcaller using her powers to combat vampires. I also would love to see a skaberen following a similar route. I'm sure not all mad scientists are like the typical cartoon-villain ones. Some just probably have some really weird ideas for recycling dead bodies. Heck even vampires might have a chance (provided they don't go the Twilight route and instead opt for something like Trinity Blood or Hellsing :p).
Frankly, I'd rather a story ends with the good on both sides joining together to get rid of the bad on both sides. :B
How this block truly ends completely depends on if they will want to revisit. I they want to revisit it will end on a darker note, if they don't it will end on a happy note(this is where my money is).
I'm gonna call Avacyn is an oldwalker who got trapped in angel form like ob did after the mending(would explain her diminished power and her disapearence to find out why she no longer is as powerful) and her being restored just means her return.
Some of you may think that you have made great mistakes in your lives, and perhaps you have. But let me ask you this.... did you ever play strip poker with two fat chicks and win?

The mending reverted people to their true forms. If she had the form of an angel, the only way to retain that would be for her to have lost her spark pre-mending.
Aside from that, the mending was about 100 years ago, and she's only been missing a year.

Well, my money is on (this may sound strange) Avacyn and Griselbrand having the hots for one another a year ago. Maybe Griselbrand tricked her into some demonic lovin and ended up possessing her. Meanwhile Mikaeus's +1 didn't show up to their double date, so he got nervous and threw Avacyn in the helvault until she was able to be exorcised.
Ohhhh what if Avacyn WAS possessed and in separating the two entities there was a blending of the yin-yang thing going on? Meaning Griselbrand has some of Avacyn's "yin" and vice versa.
~Maybe?

While the idea of an hemaphroditic angel/demon is amusing, I hope they don't go that route with Avacyn and Griselbrand. If anything, vampiric possession sounds more appealing; do note that vampires have a history with Innistrad's angels, having been born of a ritual invoving their blood.
Skaabs on Innistrad also use Angel Blood as an ingredient, now that I think about it.
And Werewolves are influenced by the Moon, which also seems to be related to Avacyn.
So, it seems like most "monsters" are related to Avacyn in some way. Hmmm.. Perhaps that is the way they'll be defeated. Avacyn could manipulate the Angel influence that already exists in them for "the good".

I hope that they don't want to revisit here. They already did that with RoE and Mirrodin and arguably Alara too. I think it'd be better if this block had a definite ending for once.
I don't know if anyone has thought of it, I am sure they have, but could it be that Liliana has her held up in hopes of making the demons more confident and come out so she can kill the one she needs to?
I guess Sorin's job is policing the multiverse and keeping all the bad juju under control, huh? Knowing that the thing with the Eldrazi wasn't an unusual event for him makes the WB colors make more sense... and even before now, I had thought that he was a bit off from what I'd have expected from a hedonistic vampire character. He's too restrained, too orderly. So why was he mono-black to begin with? Not just mono-black, his original card had three black symbols in it. That's super-black. But it turns out he has tendencies all along? Eh.
Speaking of the trailer, note that it lingered on a shot of the Helvault when Sorin was asking where Avacyn went. Not surprising at all, but still, more obvious clues aren't a bad thing.

Well while I can't say he was purely white, wasn't the leader of the Azorius guild the real villain during the Ravnica block?

Nope. It was Augustin. He was controlling Szadek. Agrus was the main character.
And if you want a white villain from the storylines Magic has had a few of them.

Why would she mod-lock werewolves? They were free to transform back when Avacyn was still around. No DFC dosen't mean no werewolves.
By 'not working anymore' could it just simply mean there'll be anti-transform effects/mechanics? o.O
But yeah, no DFC doesn't necessarily mean no werewolves in the canon. Maybe there just won't be any new werewolf or other DFC cards. ._.
Chances are, Sorin will restore Avacyn and give her two black eyes and a Gothic set of armour.
