At least it was flavorful and discussed many of the words they used in Mirrodin. Some sounded fake but were real. Some were just fake. Some were actually just words from some human language.
There is so much Flavor to discuss and he chooses to give us filler crap.
To be fair, Matt started this type of colum long before Doug ever picked up the pen.
Writers change, styles change, nothing you can do about it. I stopped reading House of cards when Mago left, I now only skim Savor the flavor (which i did while Matt wrote it as well).

I was, for the most part, fine with this column. Getting something related to actual flavor or the world at hand - for a change - was really nice. That...basic, BASIC error of phthisis though...he continues to fill me with dread for this alleged "story-driven" block, when he continues to get flavor details completely. wrong.

The franchise MtG most resembles is Battlestar Galactica. Why? Its players exist in, at most, a dozen different models at any given point in time, with perhaps up to 3% variation, 5% if you're lucky.

I'm not sure if Doug is fluent in Magic's storied history or not. I don't know if he has to be.
Ideally Brady would be writing Savor the flavor, but he's a pretty busy guy.
I could've written that article! It doesn't give any info at all! Also, is it me or does he go into "Karl"'s letter seriously? What the hell. Just...ah....*twitch*

I'm seriously with you on that. That letter was obnoxious while someone was trying to be funny, which would have been fine if they had their little joke, but to actually print it is... insulting to us.
Anyways, I have nothing overtly against this particular column. This was something Matt started, as Skibo pointed out, so I can't fault Doug for doing it. It's something of a tradition, so I'll give Doug props for keeping up with it.
As for Doug messing up Pthisis... well, like Skibo said, he's part of creative, but he's actually not THAT big a part. Look at what he actually does aside from writing the column. Flavor Text and he's involved in the worldbuilding sit in. He's not actually that involved with writing the story guys, and a lot of you need to get that. Even when he bloody well wrote the novel, he didn't come up with the story he was telling.
Nothing interesting here.
Mirage and Visions is just so not MtG, it is artistic and flavorful experience with a soul - like the cars of the old. I know personally at least two other people who seriously treat it as separate game.
Mirage and Visions not Mtg?.
They where artisticly the best sets ever(in my oppinion) and thestory dealt with 3 powerfull wizards and a Planeswalker on an Africa themed continent.
What's not magic about that?.
Also, it yust bugs me that planes no longer have continents and such, so every time i see some black dude i can't help myself where the hell did he came from?.
Dougie should atleast try to make something of this collumn..

It's about time for the reserved list to die, for the sake of Vintage and Legacy (And Commander).

Indeed. And the same guy is writing the book for Mirrodin2. ...the block that's supposed to be story-focused...well, (worse word for excrement).
As I told Volrath just a couple of minutes ago, you can tell that this guy is a product of the internet. It just reeks of a lack of proofreading and fast typing.
For instance, Nissa summons a behemoth, later on referred to a "behemouth".
Volrath and I thought that, if it were not a typo, it might be just a really big mouth.
Yeah, ToA was full of typos and crap writing. Any encounter with the brood goes: "Nissa sees brood. Nissa tries to disguise herself/the group as some random nature thing. Nissa fails. Goblin dies. Nissa carried away"

"
It was probably related to the Evil eye's of orms by gore and the Evil eye of Urborg. Only it was mouth, not an eye. And less evil, yust big.
I wonder what other kinds of different floating bodyparts will eventually pop up.
Yeah. Baaaaaaaaaaad. I'm just carrying it through for completion's sake.
Also, what the hell Anowon? First you travel all the way to Akoum from Ondu, then back to Ondu and to top things off, back to Akoum again. WHAT?! I know he was forced to by the Eldrazi, but. WHAT?!
I think we can connect the dots here. Savor the Flavor is so bad these days because the Flavor is bad these days.
We are on to something!.
And when all the Eyes, the BeheMouth and the sill missing ears, nose and faceless head merge they will form Ultron!, who ressurects Karona, Yawgmoth and goes around the planes telling people Marit-Lage was an Eldrazi!
The horror!

Maybe it's because the writers are on tight schedules to write books which is why those books are filled with all those errors?
I doubt that, flying eye in the sky. All of it just reeks of internet generation typing. I've been on the internet since its inception (Hi 24kb modem!) so I know a thing or two about it. And this, my friend, is internet generation. Besides, he just typed it in MS word. I can see it from miles away. Not to say that makes a book bad, but all those tiny factors add up to become one major annoyance.

Errors are pretty much inevitable in the first printing of a book, i haven't read one where there wasn't one or two.
It's really on the editor's head, not the writer's though. While the writer should keep good spelling and grammar, it's the editor's job to do the finishing touches.
* I think the best way to handle it would be to give out final manuscripts to a select few storyline gurus, and have them check for continuity errors and such. But that's alot of work.

It never struck me as a particular large plane.

I'm reading Teeth of Akoum now. Apparently, there is a big sea between Akoum and Turntimber's continent.
Also, Teeth of Akoum. Holy crap. Well, it isn't holy. Just crap.

with one book per block as opposed to one book per set tight scheduling is no excuse.
THey actually went from 3 books a year to 4.
THey are also doing webcomic, and more speciality products.
They are actually doing more work now than before.
Four? What two don't I know about? The only actual books I can think of are a block novel and a planeswalker novel...
