Hey Pete, I'm taking my limited edition Gix to Volrath to show him. Cool huh?
I'm still happy with it. I still need to frame it, though.
On your gobbo, I do agree that the third one almost seem less finished than the second. And after reading the explanation, I realize that you did what I thought you had. Question: Do you still draw on paper at all or did you give it over to digital completely?

[I was permabanned and all I got to show for it was .... well, nothing.]
Question: Do you still draw on paper at all or did you give it over to digital completely?
Yup, I still sketch. Actually the 'decapitated goblin' sketch was pencil on paper. Usually, I do real media sketches from initial roughs on up but when I'm closing in on the final drawing I scan it and redo it digitally so it's a clean black line in a transparent layer. Also, it allows me to alter limb positions or change the size of elements easily. I might have made the goblin's head 5% larger in the final submitted sketch, for instance.
No, I didn't think my comic book habits were bad, just showing.
And I know of digital artists that never use more than 1 layer, and some that use over a hundred. Most use a dozen or two during the course of a painting. There's no right way, just whatever works for you.
I was wondering of you have an high-res image of Gix(vanguard) or Oppression that you can post?, i always wanted to those art's a bit clearer then on the card frame. Especially Gix, since the guy he's doing away with looks funny/weird on the card.
Many thanks.

I think Gix is certainly worth revisiting. I haven't forgotten the idea of trying to do a re-envisioning of him. The postcard from last year was just a stepping stone, I'd like to take it further.
I don't know when I'll have time, but it's on my list of things to tackle on the blog, so we'll see. Oh, and the guy on the Gix Vanguard card is not being killed. That's a priest of Gix and he's been reduced to being Gix's pet.
ION, on my blog, a quick update on how 2011 has been treating me, and a bonus sketch of the Lhurgoyf which I don't think has ever been seen before -
Nice goyf! , they should really hire you to do a tarmogoyf, should a promo sure be made.
Great to hear that you will revisit our friendly neighbourhood praetor!, keep us informed.
Also, could you share a larger image of the Gix vanquard card?.

Also, i could identify all the goblins except the one in the explosion, He reminded me of Skirk Marauder with the knife in his mouth, but the marauder isn't all that.. exploding..

Turns out that Lhurgoyf piece from from one of the Magic comics released in the mid 90's. It was a special issue with Magic artists doing interpretations of certain specified Magic combos.
Anyway onto today's blog post: the art of the signature, and a few tidbits that you may never have known about two of my favorite Magic pieces from fifteen years ago.
Ah, yes. Good old Wandering Mage. Takes me back to the day...Say, Pete, did you ever include any cool easter eggs in your drawings, on par with what you showed in the latest post? I mean something beyond your intials. Rather, something like what was on that one Myr card from the old Mirrodin block, where the artist wrote a combo tip in the art.
Dunjohn, there's certainly a Carrionette vibe but that's because the art description wanted an effect that was black tendrils. Funnily enough, I though about putting Apprentice Necromancer up on the blog but not for a story reason. The set it came from, the art was printed pretty poorly and blacks were dull. Someday I'll show you how much nicer it looks in the 'flesh'.
ION...
On the blog: Judge Dredd & Sandman, the mashup you never expected to see.
BTW, if anyone is interested, I finally got all of my Magic art originals measured and entered into a price list. It's a pdf and runs 11 pages! Drop me a line if you want a copy.

I'd like a copy. My newly-uncrappified house needs at least one Phyrexian pic.
