I think it's (semi) reasonable to assume that it had a large hand to play in Squee's immortality, assuming Squee isn't naturally immortal.
And yes, in the books Crovax says Yawgmoth did it, but then you're taking the word of an insane maniac, and making the assumption that Yawgmoth would waste immortality on some lame, useless ENEMY goblin instead of his general or his Evincar.

Perhaps it had something to do with it, but Squee doesn't have it in his possession now and he's still unkillable.
Yawgmoth did it to feed Crovax's insatiable hunger for violence. He gave Squee to Crovax to kill as much as he liked. (Source: Phyrexian Tyranny)

It could be like Jodah's immortality from nearly drowning in the Fountain of Youth.

Right. Once again, Phyrexian Tyranny's flavour text is from Crovax's mouth. Since when was Crovax privy to Yawgmoth's thoughts? Not to mention that Invasion Crovax has the sanity of a Mogg.
Crovax never says Yawgmoth did it; He says Yawgmoth gave Squee to him. I assume Yawgmoth found that Squee was now unkillable and very rapidly found the nearest minion to fob it off on.
I cannot, for the life of me, imagine anything more annoying than an unkillable goblin running around my sanctum while I'm trying to destroy a plane.

It could be like Jodah's immortality from nearly drowning in the Fountain of Youth.
Jodah's immortality is very different from Squee's imortality. If Jodah were to get his head crushed in by a hammer, his head would not simply reform; he'd be dead. Squee on the other hand would reform, get back up, and be able to continue onward as though nothing happened.
In short, Jodah's immortality prevents him of dying of old age. Squee's prevents him from dying of anything.

...uh, sorry, but I'm probably extremely dense for not seeing what your point is.
The Fountain of Youth gives...well, youth and health. The Salvation Sphere protects your life. Why would you expect two completely different artifacts to have the same effects?
they don't have the same effect! the fountain of youth gives you eternal youth, while squee's immortality prevents him from dying from just everything (except from age...that we don't know, like Squirle pointed out)
Stop trying to rewrite canon. Squee was augmented by the phyrexians. People who held the toy are also dead.
Was Squee augmented by the phyrexians? I don't think so. Crovax just assumed Yawgmoth had something to do with the fact that Squee kept coming back to life.
Also, I think I read it somewhere that Squee was not meant to be immortal like what we read in Apocalypse. The reason that Squee was immortal was that J.R.King took the fact that Squee on his card is immortal. The designers made the Squee card to represent Squee as an annoying pest that won't easily go away, but not necessarily some kind of immortal. J.R King however thought otherwise.

And when King did that, it became canon. Deal with it.
And I'll say it again, why do the other characters who have held the toy continue to die while squee does not.
I haven't read all the books, so don't flame me for suggesting this but:
a) if Squee isn't inherently immortal
b) nor is he an project-made-immortal of Yawgmoth/Phyrexians
c) nor does "Squee's Toy" grant immortality (as suggested because others' have touched it, yet have died).
Again, I haven't read all the books, but I am an eager lurker of the storyline forum and lover of the MtG storyline, so shoot that theory down if you have to.
Squee was never revealed as a Planeswalker, was he? Perhaps, that may explain the "immortality" (although, I know Planeswalker's are inherently immortal... but they are damn close)........
At any rate, although I haven't read the books, I think the "Yawgmoth manipulated, so Crovax has a play-toy" angle seems the most logical.
(about the English language) It's kinda like a raft that was cobbled together from parts of three different boats and since then has been kept barely afloat with crude repairs every time a leak appeared.
And when King did that, it became canon. Deal with it.
Name one good reason why we should treat the words of a proven insane maniac with zero ability for decent strategy or any proper intellectual thought, who also is not privy to Yawgmoth's thoughts, as truth.
Words get printed in books all the times. Many of them happen to be spoken by idiots, liars, ignorant fools and delusional madmen. Treating such words as concrete fact within storylines is equally foolish.
The only thing that's canon is what Crovax said, nothing more.
And I'll say it again, why do the other characters who have held the toy continue to die while squee does not.
Name one other character that has had as much exposure as Squee, who happened to covet it and carry it with him for months (if not years).
I doubt anyone who drank from the Fountain of Youth gained permanent immortality, but nearly drowning in it is starkly different.
...exect for old age perhaps. We never did find out what aging would do to Squee.
Perhaps Yawgmoth's curse prevents him from aging too?

I doubt Yawgie would make Squee unkillable, because that would just be stupid. Then again, Crovax did run Yawgie's invasion and Ertai was like the only semi-sane guy of the group.
However, Squee's unbreakableness certainly depends on him bein him in some way.

I has some sense.
Crovax drew energy from each creature he killed (he was a vampire). This power could be used for regeneration, teleportation, extending his powers or control over flowstone. This new Squee was for him as selfrecharging battery.
No...he gained strength from eating souls. Immortal Squee = no stealing soul = useless for Crovax.
Besides, Crovax loved killing and any kind of brutal tortures (just think of organ he created - very, very creative). Squee was a fine gift for Crovax's pleasure. He didn't have to bother to go and get new people.
Sure, he'd be bored with Squee after some time, but the goblin could still hold the job of first-aid kit for his vampire master.
Right, because right in the middle of the war that Yawgmoth had been planning for several millenniums which he will not tolerate any failure in, he decides to give his Evincar a toy to play with, one that has to be killed constantly, otherwise it would cause massive chaos and havoc in the Stronghold.
Really people, Yawgmoth giving Squee immortality only makes sense in a King universe, and I'm not willing to except that kind of reality yet.
Was it a part of the Legacy? Was it living or unliving? What were its powers, and what eventually happened to it?
Thanks in advance for tolerating this off-the-wall question.
