During the modern's face to face open series, i've played taking turn and there was a play where i should have called a judge, but i didn't and it's keeping bothering me :
It was 3rd game vs Abzan CoCo. We were at his turn 7 and he had a big board with the presence of Eidolon of Rhetoric. At my turn, i topdecked Temporal Mastery. I had Cryptic Command in my hand. So, here goes my question : Could I have bounce the eidolon before revealing my miracle card or Could I reveal the card, cast cryptic and then cast temporal mastery ? Does revealing the miracle card goes on the stack?
Once you draw it you have to reveal it if you wish to cast it for it's miracle cost. However, miracle is also a triggered ability which uses the stack. So you could respond to the miracle trigger and cast cryptic command to return the eidolon to the players hand. After that you could let the trigger resolve which allows you to cast the temporal mastery for its miracle cost.
If Eidolon of Rhetoric is returned to hand with Cryptic Command, its effect ends (C.R. 604.2). As a result, players won't be prevented from casting more than one spell each turn, including casting Temporal Mastery for its miracle cost.
Putting a Miracle-triggered ability on the stack isn't "cast a spell". Miracle ability will let you cast Temporal mastery for Miracle cost during Miracle-triggered ability resolves.
So if you response Miracle-triggered ability on the stack by cast Cryptic command to return the Eidolon of Rhetoric to its owner's hand. After the Command resolved , the Eidolon isn't on the field. Then Miracle-triggered ability resolves , you cast Temperal mastery just fine.
For details ; Your turn begins.
Untap step > Upkkep step > Draw step.
You draw a card as Turn-based action. Then you reveal a Temporal mastery you just got it.Miracle-triggered ability triggers.
The ability is put on the stack.
You cast Cryptic command choose the modes , let say the second and third mode. You choose your opponent's Eidolon of Rhetoric as a target.
The Cryptic Command resolves = Eidolon is returned to its owner's hand.
Then the triggered ability resolves = you cast Temporal mastery.
702.93. Miracle
702.93a Miracle is a static ability linked to a triggered ability (see rule 603.10). “Miracle [cost]” means “You may reveal this card from your hand as you draw it if it’s the first card you’ve drawn this turn. When you reveal this card this way, you may cast it by paying [cost] rather than its mana cost.”
