Yesterday I was playing against a friend who had a 4/4 and a 6/5 creature in play. I tried to kill them both by casting Master the Way and copying it, dealing 5 and 6 damage to them, respectively. My friend responded with a Boros Charm to grant his creatures indestructible and save them. I had a Jeskai Elder equipped with Loxodon Warhammer (currently a 5/3 with prowess boost), and my question is this: if I attack with the elder and my friend blocks with the 6/5, will the elder trample over for any damage?
Trample takes into account Lethal Damage marked on the defending creature. It doesn't care that the creature doesn't die and since Indestructible doesn't remove damage, all of the damage can be trampled over to the defending player since the creatures have already been dealt lethal damage.
With Trample (and double-blocking), there must be at least lethal damage assigned to the (first) blocker before you can carry over any remaining damage to the player (or next blocker).
This does include previous damage assigned to that creature, and it does not matter if the damage that is or would be assigned to a creature would *actually* kill it (if that damage would be prevented for whatever reason, the creature will regenerate, or it is indestructible).
So in the above scenario, we have an indestructible creature with already-lethal damage marked on it. That means you need to assign only 0 damage for it to be lethal, and can trample over the remainder.
