If I play Path to Exile on your Commander, during an EDH game, you will likely replace the exile from the Path by putting the Commander in the Command Zone. Will this replacement prevent you from searching a basic land from your library? I mean, is this replacement somehow nullifying the exile from the Path?
The choice of where the commander is going to end up is made as the spell is resolving so regardless of where the creature ends up you just continue resolving the spell once that action has been performed.
You still have the option of searching for a land.

The player could still search for a basic land. The search instruction is seperate from the exile instruction, therefore does not hinge on the creature actually being exiled.
