I block a 4/4 with a Seraph of Dawn (2/4) and two Moonlight Geist's (2x 2/1).
My opponent declares Moonlight Geist as First and Second then the Seraph of Dawn for damage.
I use the damage prevention of the first Geist.
In the end the first survived and the second died ; but we still argued if the damage is considered "lethal" ; as its prevented in the first place, and never lethal.
Just wanted to make sure, as i think the interaction with multiple Moonlight Geists will happen a lot in Draft for the future.

When you are assigning damage to creatures, all you have to do is assign what SHOULD be lethal. You don't take into account if that damage would be prevented in any way.
So in this case the 4/4 would assign 1 damage to the first Moonlight Geist (which is then prevented in this case), 1 to the next Geist. And then the final 2 to the Seraph of Dawn.
So yes the first Geist should live, and the second one should die.
Sure thats what i had on my radar the time magic did not have the blocker change with the core set update.
I thought you do NOT assign any damage (unless it has deathtouch), and just the order of creatures. The game then "kills" the creatures in that order, if it does not kill the creature this creature protects the rest (but the opponent can simply change the order, in case they want the seraph dead, they could just take that first).
So if you still assign damage, i might miss just another update of the rulez, or just get it wrong from your explanation.
You pick the order of the blockers, then yes you assign damage to them in that order.
If you really want you can have your creature deal ALL it's damage to the first creature. But to damage the second creature you MUST assign (at least) lethal to the first one.
