So I finally got my hands on this magnificent tactician, and I was wondering if I could do the following:
- I attack with two creatures.
- The defending player blocks just one of my attackers.
- I switch the blocker(s) from one creature to the other using the good general.
I know that exchanges can't happen unless there is something to exchange for, but I feel like the Oracle would specifically say exchange if that was the case. Anybody know how this works, exactly?
General Jarkeld tries to make an exchange, but since the entire exchange cannot be made, it is not made.

701.8. Exchange
701.8a. A spell or ability may instruct players to exchange something (for example, life totals or control of two permanents) as part of its resolution. When such a spell or ability resolves, if the entire exchange can't be completed, no part of the exchange occurs.
Trying to exchange one thing for nothing results in nothing happening. -Jack
