What happens when my opponent plays a tendrils of agony with storm for 8 and I play sudden shock in response? What happens to the storm copies?
Nothing. They are completely unaffected by Split Second.
Another (related) question is it possible to have a card with both storm and split second on it? Or is that pointless?
It would be feasible. Split Second doesn't stop spells from being copied, and it doesn't stop triggered abilities from triggering, so it doesn't really interact with Storm at all.

The storm copies go onto the stack before you get a chance to play a response, so they stay on the stack even if you respond with a sudden spell.
If a spell has both storm and split second, then you get to get a bunch of split second spell copies. YaY!
EDIT- SARNATHD AGAIN WOW
That's not quite right. The Storm trigger goes on the stack before anyone can respond, but the copies themselves won't be made until that trigger resolves, which won't happen until both players pass priority in succession while it's on top of the stack. Responding to the trigger with a Split Second spell (that isn't Trickbind) won't do anything to it, of course, but you can still do it.
as the copies resolve, they cannot be responded to, am I right?
In this hypothetical scenario, that would be correct. Note that the copies themselves have Split Second.
"I can only respond with instants, sorceries can only be played on my turn when I have priority." This statement is correct?
In general, you can only respond to a spell or ability by playing Instant spells, activated abilities, or noninstant spells with Flash. There are also some special actions you can take, such as flipping a face-down creature face-up by payings its Morph cost.
Sorceries can only be played during your mainphase when you have priority, and the stack is empty.

About any "subpar" mechanics or cards: Context is king.
If I make a templating or grammar error, let me know.
The franchise MtG most resembles is Battlestar Galactica. Why? Its players exist in, at most, a dozen different models at any given point in time, with perhaps up to 3% variation, 5% if you're lucky.
wow thanks all, I did not know you cannot play sorceries when there is something on the stack, but thinking though how the stack works, that makes sense
Another (related) question is it possible to have a card with both storm and split second on it? Or is that pointless?
Thanks in advance!

Not quite. You couldn't respond with a spell or activated ability, but you could of course unmorph something or use a mana ability.
