Hi, if I have a Gyre Sage out, and I cast Avatar of the Resolute do I get to determine the order of counters placed? I think both happen at the same time so I get to choose the order. What I've been doing is, having the Gyre Sage evolve first and putting a counter on it from the Avatar of the Resolute coming into play, and then putting a counter on the Avatar of the Resolute because I decided to trigger his ability second and with the Gyre Sage having a counter now he will get one too.
I just want to confirm that's right, or does the Avatar trigger coming into play and is done and over and afterward Gyre Sage Evolves which is too late for the Avatar to get a counter. Thank you!
Avatar of the Resolute's ability creates a replacement effect, while Gyre Sage's evolve is a triggered ability. Which means, that the Avatar is already on the field with the determined number of counters before the Sage's trigger even makes it to the stack (if it triggers). So there is only one order: the Avatar enters with its counters, then the Sage triggers (or not, depending on current p/t of both the Sage and the entering creature), later the trigger resolves to give a counter to the Sage (or not, depending on current p/t of both creatures).
I just want to confirm that's right, or does the Avatar trigger coming into play and is done and over and afterward Gyre Sage Evolves which is too late for the Avatar to get a counter. Thank you!
