I was playing a game where I had 3 Vault Skirge attacking. My opponent had a Wedding Ring on his side with the token on me and he was at 1 life When combat damage hits would he lose to combat damage before the lifelink triggers? I am pretty sure he does but I need to confirm it.
Gaining life from lifelink happens as a result of that damage, so at the same time as that damage happens. However, the Ring's last ability is a triggered ability, which has to go on the stack and resolve to do anything. Losing for having 0 or less life is a state based action that happens right after combat damage has been dealt, before any player gets priority, before any triggered abilities can even go on the stack. So you gain life before your oponent loses the game, but he loses the game before he can gain life from your copy of the Wedding Ring.
Your Skirges deal 3 combat damage to your opponent and simultaneously gain you 3 life, and your opponent's Wedding Ring technically triggers from that lifegain... but the Ring's triggers can't even go on the stack, because your opponent loses the game as a state-based action from being at -2 life before they do. Lifelink is immediate and simultaneous with damage, but a triggered ability like Wedding Ring's needs to go through the stack and resolve to have its effect, and state-based actions always happen before that.
