Just wanted to make sure: is the "Tap: Add a [Color] Mana to your Mana Pool" on artifact lands such as Seat of the Synod considered as an "Activated Ability"?
If I understand correctly, the ability to produce one mana from a land is generally not considered an "Activated Ability". But what about artifact lands?
For instance: if I have Stony Silence in play, can my opponent's Seat of the Synod still produce its Blue mana?
All basic land types grant the associated activated mana ability to the land their are on by the rules. Hence why those lands (basic and nonbasic alike) with land types don't spell out those mana abilities as rules text, only as reminder text at the most. All those abilities ARE activated abilities. An artifact land with a mana ability can't be activated to produce mana with Stony Silence in play, wether it's its own ability printed as rules text, or granted with a basic land type.
Artifact lands are "artifacts" for purposes of Stony Silence (C.R. 608.2i, 205.2b). Thus, if Stony Silence is on the battlefield, their activated abilities can't be activated any more than those of nonland artifacts such as Sol Ring can be.

Thank you very much
