I play Kudzu on my opponent's land. They tap that land and it gets destroyed. Does my opponent have to put Kudzu on another land or can they just let Kudzu go to the grave? The wording on Kudzu leads me to believe latter.
Kudzu's current Oracle text says: "That land's controller may attach Kudzu to a land of their choice" (C.R. 108.1). Thus, that player is not required to attach Kudzu this way, even if no other player controls a land that Kudzu could enchant (C.R. 603.5, 608.2d). (And if Kudzu is attached to a land that has left the battlefield, Kudzu will go to the graveyard as a state-based action [C.R. 704.5m].)
According to Gatherer, that wording is this:
When enchanted land becomes tapped, destroy it. That land's controller may attach Kudzu to a land of their choice.
So yeah, there's a choice. The MTGSal database is off, and I'm starting to want to change what I get linked to on this site.

Thanks. After carefully reading it that's the conclusion I reached. I only ask because "back in the day" we always played it as a "must" ability for some reason. It feels that without it being a "must" ability to be an extremely lackluster card, whereas it being a "must" ability makes it a fun card, especially in multiplayer.
