Hi all, I'm working on an EDH deck using Wulfgar of Icewind Dale and, while the effect is fairly straightforward in most cases, I'm uncertain about one aspect. The card's text includes "If a creature you control attacking would cause the triggered ability of a permanent you control to trigger, that ability triggers an additional time." How would this interact with a card that specifies that YOU, as the player, attack (which I interpret as more or less "attack with at least one creature during your combat phase) There's nothing in the direct ruleset that I can find defining what exactly goes into you, as a player attacking.
Let's say I play Wulfgar while I have Overwhelming Instinct in play. Then, I attack with three creatures. I draw a card, which is a triggered ability, and that ability only could have been triggered by attacking with a creature (since otherwise there'd be no attack step). Does Wulfgar's effect trigger and thus allow me to draw a second card, or does it not because the effect is not triggered specifically by [a creature] attacking but by you as a player attacking? Thanks.
Wulfgar of Icewind Dale's last ability affects only triggered abilities with conditions that are directly related to attacking, such as "whenever this creature attacks" or "whenever you attack with one or more creatures." It does not affect triggered abilities with other trigger conditions, such as "whenever this creature becomes tapped."
So yes, it affects "whenever you attack" abilities. You attacking with a creature caused Overwhelming Instinct to trigger, so Wulfgar's static ability (his is not an "effect trigger") causes Instinct's ability to trigger twice.
