Im sorry, but my kids are making decks from my boxes of old cards, pegasus, elephants....hot animals with the pre teen girl crowd, so im stuck with banding...
Anyway....
Keywords and abilities dont carry over to the band at all, correct?
If i band a mesa pegasus with a white knight, the 3/3 band does NOT have flying, first strike or protection from black,
Its just basically a 3/3 vanilla creature, but i get to decide which creature takes how much damage, even if i decide 1 of the creatures takes all of the damage and the other creature takes 0, correct?
Thanks

You got it. Banding doesn't share keywords at all. It actually makes evasive keywords worse because if you can block one member of the band you have blocked all members of the band. Protection isn't shared but the effect is that it protects them all as you can divert all damage from black sources to the creature with protection from black.
The creatures in the attacking band do keep their abilities, but they don't share them. What that means as to whether or not the opponent can block the band and what happens with combat damage varies.
In the Mesa Pegasus + White Knight example, they could block the band with a nonblack creature with or without flying, because it can block the Knight, and they could block the band with a black creature with flying, because it can block the Pegasus. But a black creature without flying or reach, specifically, can't block that band, because it can't block either.
The Knight still deals its combat damage in the first combat damage step, so if a blocker has 2 or less toughness, that can matter, as that bloker won't be around for the "normal" combat damage step, as per the usual with first strike. Protection from black can also still matter if they blocked with a black flying creature, as you can assign that creature's damage to the Knight (banding allowing you to make all damage assignments) and the damage will be prevented.

I'm a former judge (lapsed), who keeps up to date on rules and policy. Keep in mind that judges' answers aren't necessarily more valid than those of people who aren't judges; what matters is we can quote the rules to back up our answers. When in doubt, ask for such quotes.
