I was wondering how the Amass mechanic on cards like Herald of the Dreadhorde works with cards like Conspiracy. when the token enters the battlefield, Conspiracy changes the type. Does the token still get the counters since the creature is no longer an Army? I am still confused with the layers.
No. With Conspiracy on the field under your control not naming "Army" (but something else), you'll not have an army on the field ever. Because Conspiracy overwrites all previous creature types. All your creatures on the field are not armies, and any new creature will not be an army either, this goes for the token created by the Amass mechanic as well. Every permanent starts out with its default characteristics. For a permanent represented by a card, that's what printed on it; for a token, that's what it is created with. There is only one layer effect here, Conspiracy, which naturally means, it is applied last. So you'll simply have no Army creature to put counters on.
What happens if you first play Conspiracy, name a creature type Army and then amass some random creature with it? Will the creature become Army Zombie or will it just remain an Army?

701.44a To amass [subtype] N means “If you don’t control an Army creature, create a 0/0 black [subtype] Army creature token. Choose an Army creature you control. Put N +1/+1 counters on that creature. If it isn’t a [subtype], it becomes a [subtype] in addition to its other types.”
If you apply the instruction "Amass Zombies 3", and you don't control a creature, you will create a 0/0 black Zombie Army creature token, which will nonetheless be a non-Zombie Army creature from the first moment it exists. Then you put three +1/+1 counters on it, and then it becomes a Zombie in addition to its other types, as a continuous effect with later effectiveness over Conspiracy.
If you control a creature as you Amass Zombies 3, then you skip creating the token. You choose any Army creature you control (and according to Conspiracy, they're all Army). You put three +1/+1 counters on it. It becomes a Zombie in addition to its other types, as a continuous effect with later effectiveness over Conspiracy.

Thank you. Another question: let's say Conspiracy is in play, all creatures are Armies and I amassed an existing creature (say it was originally a Human), so it's now an Army Zombie. On some point Conspiracy is being removed, what happens to this creature? I assume it wil now be a Human Zombie, correct? Or will Zombie type be removed with Conspiracy, as it's no longer an Army?
Conspiracy is gone. It is no longer doing anything to creature types.
604.2. Static abilities create continuous effects, some of which are prevention effects or replacement effects. These effects are active as long as the permanent with the ability remains on the battlefield and has the ability, or as long as the object with the ability remains in the appropriate zone, as described in rule 113.6.
It was printed as a Human. The continuous effect of the amass ability that resolved adds Zombie to its creature types. It is therefore a Human Zombie.
