Hello, I’m new to MTG and my son and I are getting to grips with the game using a black and green deck. My confusion is with the Underworld Sentinel in the black deck. I understand that when he attacks, a creature is exiled from the graveyard. I also understand that upon his death, the exiled cards go back onto the battlefield. What I’m confused with is where the card reads “when the Underworld Sentinel dies, put all cards exiled with it onto the battlefield”. Does this mean that the Underworld Sentinel, also goes back onto the battlefield (ie can’t die), or does he go into the graveyard? Thank you for helping out a newbie.

The Sentinel goes to the graveyard, which triggers the second ability. That ability will return all cards exiled by the first ability of this particular Sentinel to the battlefield. The Sentinel is not among those, it is in the graveyard. So no, it doesn't return itself.
Where Underworld Sentinel's second ability says "all cards exiled with [Underworld Sentinel]", it means all cards in exile that were put there due to Underworld Sentinel's first ability (C.R. 607.2a).
That second ability doesn't mean "When Underworld Sentinel dies, put all cards exiled with Underworld Sentinel, as well as Underworld Sentinel itself, onto the battlefield", or even "When Underworld Sentinel dies, put all cards in exile, together with Underworld Sentinel, onto the battlefield."
