Rules question is if Lazav copies a creature that has an imprint ability and then imprints a card does Lazav retain the imprinted ability as long as Lazav remains on the battlefield?
There is no "imprinted ability" to retain. Even the imprinted card is a fiction, because imprint is only an ability word - an italicized category with no intrinsic rules. Myr Welder has an ability that exiles cards and an ability that examines cards exiled with the other ability.
If you use the Myr Welder ability on Lazav to exile a card from a graveyard, and Lazav is still a copy of Myr Welder, then the other ability of Myr Welder on Lazav will apply for Lazav. If Lazav becomes a copy of something else, then it doesn't have either of the Myr Welder abilities any more, so it isn't given any activated abilities of those artifacts.
If it becomes a copy of a Myr Welder again, the cards previously exiled do not count for the second Myr Welder ability; Lazav does not have the activated abilities of those artifacts (CR607.5, 706.7).

Also just as an addition here, even if Lazav, the Multifarious becomes a copy of Myr Welder (or any permanent with 'imprint'), it will be unable to make use of 'imprint' as it only takes effect when that object enters the battlefield, and Lazav is already on the battlefield when it copies and therefore cannot 'imprint' anything.

This isn’t entirely correct. Myr Welder has an activated ability. The imprint works fine. On the other hand something like chrome mox wouldn’t work because it does have an etb triggered ability.
