in old versions of trample if a player defend a trample creature with a banding creature, the defending player could put all excess damage to the banding creature without lose any life.
does it continue happens?
like i attack with a 6/6 trample creature and the defending player blocks with a 1/1 banding creature, he can still give 6 damage to the creature or this doesn't work anymore?
702.21j During the combat damage step, if an attacking creature is being blocked by a creature with banding, or by both a [quality] creature with “bands with other [quality]” and another [quality] creature, the defending player (rather than the active player) chooses how the attacking creature’s damage is assigned. That player can divide that creature’s combat damage as they choose among any creatures blocking it. This is an exception to the procedure described in rule 510.1c.
Trample allows a blocked creature to assign excess damage to the player/planeswalker it is attacking, but that is but an option. Excess damage can also be further assigned among the blocking creatures. And with banding on a blocking creature, the defending player makes that decision.
