With Faces of the Past in play, does it only affect creatures I control? Or if someone is playing Zombie tribal and one dies, can I then tap all other zombies that player controls? Or, can other players choose to tap or untap their own creatures if I have Faces of the Past in play? My friend seems to think it affects all players creatures.
Thanks!

Faces of the Past says "all creatures that share a creature type with it," not "all creatures you control that share a type with it." So it affects all creatures, no matter who controls them.
As for the trigger, if you control Faces of the Past, then it is your trigger, and you decide whether to tap or untap, regardless of whose creature died.
Faces of the Past's ability now says: "...tap all untapped creatures that share a creature type with [the creature that died] or untap all tapped creatures that share a creature type with it" (C.R. 108.1). When that ability resolves, its controller can decide only to tap certain untapped creatures or to untap certain tapped creatures; that player can't choose to tap some creatures and untap others (C.R. 208.2c).
