So the other day my friend played this card and turned one of his lands into a 9/9. On my next turn I played roon and used his ability to flicker the land. My friend insists that the land stays a 0/0 creature and would get the counters back. Am I correct to say this isn't the case and the land turns back into a basic land?
When an object changes zones, any counters that were on it are removed. When the land returns to the battlefield, it is considered a new object with no memory of, or relation to its previous existence. The land won't remember that it was animated earlier, and will return as just a land without any counters.
