Hey everybody, I was wondering who had a correct answer after some confusion the other night. If someone has ethereal absolution on the table which gives all of the opponents creatures -1/-1 on the table, can said opponent play a llanowar elf for example that goes Down to 0/0 but then taps oran-rief, the vastwood at instant speed to put a +1/+1 counter on it? They also had a Yavamaya Hollow on the table with the option of regeneration. Thanks ~

In this scenario, an otherwise 1/1 creature (such as Llanowar Elves) will enter the battlefield as 0/0 under the opponent's control (C.R. 613.1g, 613.3b, 613.4, 611.3b, 112.6) and so go to the graveyard as a state-based action (C.R. 704.5f) — and this happens before any player gets priority to activate abilities, including Oran-Rief, the Vastwood's last ability (C.R. 117.5, 117.1b). See also this thread.
And regeneration, if you could even attempt to use an ability or spell to put a shield on the doomed elves, wouldn't save them from dying for having 0 toughness. They are simply put into the graveyard, not destroyed, just dying.
