I was wondering if Sorin, Vengeful Bloodlord can use his -3 to bring back Gideon Blackblade from the graveyard? Gideon says "as long as it's your turn, Gideon Blackblade is a 4/4 Human Soldier creature" so I would assume this would apply in all zones. Can someone clarify this for me? Thanks!

He cannot. Unless specified on the card a permanent's abilities only apply while they are on the field. In all zones by the battlfield Gideon is only a planeswalker.
No, Gideon's ability is a static ability and those only work when the card is on the battlefield, unless specifically stated otherwise of if the ability can't function there. Gideon in the graveyard is just a planeswalker card and not a legal target for Sorin's ability.
(Another exception are characteristic defining abilities, which define a characteristic normally found in another spot on the card. The Changeling ability is an example of that, defining the creature types of the card, since the lot wouldn't fit on the type line.)
