I'm curious how many +1/+1 counters the following cards would get if they are blocked by multiple creatures in combat.
Spiritmonger: Whenever Spiritmonger deals damage to a creature, put a +1/+1 counter on Spiritmonger. Snapping Sailback: Whenever Snapping Sailback is dealt damage, put a +1/+1 counter on it.
Would these creatures only get a single +1/+1 counter each combat since damage is dealt at the same time (barring first or double strike) or would they get a +1/+1 counter for each creature blocking them (assuming they have power in Snapping Sailback's case)?
Combat damage is a single event, and since Sailback's ability doesn't specify damage by a source, you just get one counter. Spiritmonger does have the "to a creature", so dealing damage to multiple creatures yields a counter for each of them.
