Let's say I have Siegehorn Ceratops and Outrider en-Kor on the battlefield and my opponent has a 2/2 creature in play. If I cast Prey Upon to have my Outrider fight the 2/2 creature and activate the Outrider's ability twice to redirect the damage to the Ceratops, how would it play out(assuming my opponent doesn't have any tricks)?
I know that my opponent's creature would die, but would the Ceratops get pinged for 1 damage, get two +1/+1 counters, then get pinged for 1 more damage and get two more +1/+1 counters? or would it receive the 2 damage at once and die before it gets counters?
Even though the two instances of the Outrider's ability resolve at different times, the fight damage, being from one effect, is all dealt at the same time. The Ceratops is dealt 2 damage, not 1 and 1.
In general, an ability of the form "whenever [this creature] is dealt damage" triggers only once for each time the creature in question is dealt damage, no matter how many sources deal damage to that creature simultaneously or how much damage is dealt to that creature simultaneously (C.R. 603.2, especially C.R. 603.2c; C.R. 700.1). Compare Siegehorn Ceratops with Nested Ghoul.
