Say I control an asylum visitor, and a wild mongrel. Am i allowed to discard my whole hand (in the process pumping up my wild mongrel) during my upkeep to trigger the card draw from asylum?
Therefore I will be able to attack with the pumped mongrel and still get the card advantage.
No. Asylum Visitor has an "intervening if" trigger. This means the condition must be true at 2 times: when it would trigger and when it goes to resolve. So, if you don't already have 0 cards in hand, Visitor won't even trigger at all. Since this occurs in the Upkeep, it is checked before anyone gets priority so there is no way to "respond" to anything in order to make the condition true in time.
