Current Necromancy wording states:
"You may cast Necromancy as though it had flash. If you cast it any time a sorcery couldn't have been cast, the controller of the permanent it becomes sacrifices it at the beginning of the next cleanup step.(...)"
which I assume means that if I cast it during main phase with empty stack it will always remain in play. Correct?
Also - that timing restriction is unaffected by cards like Leyline of Anticipation, right? So, is there a way to work around this restriction, a way to cast Necromancy outside of my main phase and keep it in play?
10/1/2009 The sacrifice occurs only if you cast it using its own ability. If you cast it using some other effect (for instance, if it gained flash from Vedalken Orrery), then it won’t be sacrificed.
Leyline of Anticipation works like Vedalken Orrery. If you say you're casting Necromancy "as though it had flash" through Leyline's ability rather than Necromancy's own ability, then you won't have to sacrifice it.
To follow up, is it possible to announce that you are casting necromancy "as though it had flash" even at a time when a sorcery _could_ be cast? Say I want both Sundering Titan triggers. Would I need to contrive some mid-combat phase casting or is simply declaring the intent to cast "with flash" in a main phase sufficient?
No. The only way to cast it using its own ability and sacrifice it is to cast it at a time that the stack is not empty or a time that is not your main phase since a Sorcery could be cast at those times.

Note that Necromancy is odd in that the sacrifice happens at the beginning of the cleanup step rather than the end step as most modern cards say. So if you cast it on the end step it will be sacrificed that same turn. You can also do it during combat if you'd like too.
Thanks a lot. That explains exactly what I was looking for - more or less the same thing that Zauzich mentioned, to get etb and ltb triggers from one casting of Necromancy.
