No, it can't be sacrificed for anything. However, no opponent is ever going to have to make that choice with the cards involved here, since no opponent will control it at the beginning of his/her upkeep (control changes when the Suit's upkeep trigger resolves, so the player doesn't yet control it for CU to trigger. The only time cumulative upkeep ever gets to trigger is your upkeep step). So the ony player for whom this matters is you.

Okay, but what if I donate Varchild's War-Riders to an opponent while it's equipped with the Assault Suit? I may give control of equipped creature to an opponent during each upkeep. I can simply choose to not do so while also never unequipping the Assault Suit. What about then?

Varchild's War-Riders's cumulative upkeep ability will trigger only if Varchild's War-Riders is on the battlefield under a player's control at the beginning of that player's upkeep (C.R. 702.23a, 109.5, 603.4). Although Assault Suit's second ability can make another player gain control of the equipped creature during the upkeep, that doesn't change whether the cumulative upkeep ability will trigger.
If Assault Suit is attached to Varchild's War-Riders (and the latter is still on the battlefield [C.R. 608.2a]) when the latter's cumulative upkeep ability resolves, then among other things, the controller of that ability (not necessarily the player who now controls Varchild's War-Riders) (C.R. 113.8, 109.5) chooses whether to pay the cumulative upkeep cost. If that player doesn't, then they would sacrifice Varchild's War-Riders (C.R. 702.23a) — but can't do so in this scenario, so the instruction to do so is ignored (C.R. 101.3; if the two players are the same, see C.R. 101.2; otherwise, see C.R. 702.23a).

If he or she doesn't, then he or she would sacrifice Varchild's War-Riders — but can't do so in this scenario, so the instruction to do so is ignored (C.R. 101.3).
Okay, so nothing would happen? That player wouldn't give an opponent the tokens yet they won't be able to sacrifice the war-riders either?

Yes. They don't even get to make that choice, since there is no CU trigger for them. And if it's your upkee and you gave the creature away, you can't sac it because you don't control it (and because the Suit is equipped to it), even if you refuse to pay the cost. Note, that you still add age counters in that case.
