Okay so I just played a game in which I had aura shards out and played as steel hellkite which targeted helm of possession.
In response my opponent activated it to take control of my scalelord reckoner
With recliner I target helm again. My oppone t then uses teferi's protection
Will my oppone t have control of reckoner at the end?
(Apologies if cardb tags are not working. On my phone)is
No. The Scalelord phases out with everything else, but the control effect ends once Helm phases out. Once everything phases back in during their Untap step, you will get your Scalelord back as there is now nothing giving them control of it.
They can always activate the Helm again if they want to take control of it again of course.

tho g is padi g is not the same as leaving th battlefield.
I am not entirely sure what you meant to say (it is pretty jumbled) but it doesn't need to leave the battlefield. Once something phases out, any effects that are looking for it no longer see it. Since Helm's own ability has a duration and that duration is as long as you control it or it remains tapped, it ends because the effect no longer sees that either is true.
702.25e. Continuous effects that affect a phased-out permanent may expire while that permanent is phased out. If so, they will no longer affect that permanent once it's phased in. In particular, effects with "for as long as" durations that track that permanent (see rule 611.2b) end when that permanent phases out because they can no longer see it.

In this scenario, Helm is phasing out before the ability of the Helm resolves.

Oh, I missed that. Then, in this case, the duration of the effect is already over which means they never get the Scalelord to begin with.
I'm glad you asked the question online as it was ambiguous
I also researched the matter and the proper ruling to quote here would be :
702.25b If a permanent phases out, its status changes to “phased out.” Except for rules and effects that specifically mention phased-out permanents, a phased-out permanent is treated as though it does not exist. It can’t affect or be affected by anything else in the game. A permanent that phases out is removed from combat. (See rule 506.4.)
Example: You control three creatures, one of which is phased out. You cast a spell that says “Draw a card for each creature you control.” You draw two cards.
Example: You control a phased-out creature. You cast a spell that says “Destroy all creatures.” The phased-out creature is not destroyed.

So I should not have been able to gain control of the scalelord reckoner as I was no longer controlling the helm of possession.
