If I have a Chained to the Rocks on the battlefield exiling a creature and cast Wildfire, if I sacrifice the Mountain that is currently enchanted, will the creature come back and take the 4 damage from Wildfire? From reading Gatherer, it sounds like it would.
From Gatherer:
"...cards like Chained to the Rocks have a single ability that creates two one-shot effects: one that exiles the creature when the ability resolves, and another that returns the exiled card to the battlefield immediately after Chained to the Rocks leaves the battlefield."
and
"The exiled card returns to the battlefield immediately after Chained to the Rocks leaves the battlefield. Nothing happens between the two events, including state-based actions."
The rulings above are accurate. The problem with the situation is that Chained to the Rocks has not left the battlefield yet. Auras go to the graveyard as a State Based Action if they are not attached to anything or they are attached to some illegal. SBA's are not checked in the middle of a spell or ability resolving. So, Wildfire causes the land to be sacrificed. Then, Chained to Rocks is attached to nothing while Wildfire deals 4 damage to everything. Then, Wildfire resolves, Chained to the Rocks is put into the graveyard, and the creature comes back.
No. Because Chained to the Rocks is exiling the creature and that aura does not leave the battlefield for not being attached to anything until state based actios are checked, which happens after Wildfire has completely resolved and left the stack. When the land is sacrificed, the aura is actually sitting on the field unattached for a while, still exilig the creature.
