Just got back into the game so please forgive my noobness.
Let's say I have 2 copies of Embalmer's Tools on the field, if I tap a zombie does a player put 2 cards into his graveyard? or do you activate each artifact separately and only get 1 card? Thanks for the help
Embalmer's Tools has two abilities, one activated and one static. The first, static, ability stacks; in this scenario two different effects are constantly reducing the activated ability costs by 1 each, resulting in a total reduction of 2. The second, activated, ability does not stack in the way you imagine. Tapping the creature is a cost to pay (because it appears before a colon) and only pays for one instance of the ability.
Each artifact has an activated ability that has you tap a Zombie to mill one card. By tapping a zombie you can only pay the cost of one of your artifacts, so only one of them is activated. This is different from triggered or static abilities. Triggered abilities look for a trigger event and they all trigger from that event, static abilities are always active and usually redundant ones stack. You can easily tell activated abilities because they are written "cost : effect". A good analogy to think of is each Tools is a vending machine, you tapping your zombies is a dollar, with only one zombie to tap you can only buy from one vending machine.
Each Embalmer's Tools has its own separate abilities. Paying the cost for one Embalmers' Tools ability doesn't pay the cost for any other ability even if it has the same text (C.R. 117.10).
