Hello there I have a quick question about protection from colors. Let's say my opponent has a Auriok Champion on the battlefield. If I cast Merciless Eviction, choosing to exile all creatures, will the Champion be removed? I read through the rules of protection and nowhere did I see protection from untargeted exile, but I'm still unsure.
Protection does 4 very specific things. It prevents the following
Damage from a source with the stated quality Enchanted/equipped by sources with the stated quality Blocked by sources with the stated quality Targeting by sources with the stated quality
Since Merciless Eviction does none of these things, protection won't prevent it.
Merciless Eviction neither causes damage to anything (C.R. 702.16e) nor targets anything ("all creatures", "all artifacts", "all enchantments", and "all planeswalkers" don't identify any targets; a sorcery spell targets something only if it identifies it with the word "target" [C.R. 114.1a], or uses a keyword that does so [C.R. 114.1e; see also C.R. 114.10a; under C.R. 701.34a, the support keyword action also uses "target [something]"]) (C.R. 702.16b), so Auriok Champion's protection from black and from red has no effect on that spell (C.R. 702.16c-d, 702.16f don't apply to Merciless Eviction here).
