9/16/2007 If Tawnos's Coffin leaves the battlefield before its ability has resolved, it will exile the targeted creature forever, since its delayed triggered ability will never trigger.
However, in this case, the permanent with the ability is leaving the battlefield during resolution of the Coffin ability, not before.
This thread is the only thing I can find about using Coffin's ability on itself, and doesn't come to any solid conclusion.
Always follow instructions in the order they are written. The first instruction of the Coffin's ability is to exile the target and all auras attached to it. This is before the delayed trigger is set up. So if Mairsil uses this abiliy on himself, he's exiled and there is nothing yet to trigger of of that event. The delayed trigger will be created, but the trigger event is already past, it will wait forever, because it cannot happen again. Mairsil and all auras that were attached to him stay exiled.

This is the exact raesoning given in the linked thread, and it is valid.
The main issue here is whether or not Mairsil is on the battlefield or not when the delayed trigger is created. Since all actions of spells and abilities must be performed on the order listed on the card, Mairsil would have already left the battlefield upon the creation of the delayed trigger, making his exile permanent.
603.7a Delayed triggered abilities are created during the resolution of spells or abilities, as the result of a replacement effect being applied, or as a result of a static ability that allows a player to take an action. A delayed triggered ability won’t trigger until it has actually been created, even if its trigger event occurred just beforehand. Other events that happen earlier may make the trigger event impossible.
Even though this scenario traditionally refers to events that happen while the spell/ability that creates the delayed trigger is still on the stack, the fact is that Mairsil's exile does occur just before the creation of the delayed trigger. Therefore, Tawnos's Coffin will cause Mairsil to exile himself permanently.
