Taking into consideration player base size, card prices, and other recent trends. What would happen if we had a massive reprint event that targeted the most needed and/or desired cards and printed them into the ground to the point that anyone could afford buying a playset of them?
Who would it affect and what would happen to the player base?
Please note I am not asking should or could this happen, but rather I want to focus on what would possibly happen and why.

Never forget whose grace and favor led to your success and always give your thanks, otherwise you might be doomed to loose it.
Well there could be an increase in th player base because now it affordable to play. There would also be investors leaving, good riddance, because the can’t gouge prices.
The problem is that WotC has been screwing over game stores now for years so if people would gather to play is questionable.

everyone likes to think that cheap cards and accessibility are whats necessary, but what actually happens is that when a pack's contents are worthless you stop buying. if you're not willing to spend money on a pack. you're not willing to participate in a tournament because the prize pay out is also worthless. those packs you drafted, worthless. so you stop playing. other people cash out their cards, if they have anything worth anything, and they don't come back.
people will argue against this, but they're wrong. they forget that this has happened already. worse, they weren't around for it and think it'll never happen again.
if you need more proof than that, look at bad sets where almost nothing you open is worth anything. attendance drops. sales drop. then we usually get a series of very strong sets because they start hurting.
