Here's a sentimental question: What's the first card you ever played? Disregarding lands, of course. I mean, what's the first creature you ever slammed down or the first spell you ever slung?
You know what? Let's do your first land too. Mine was a Mountain.
Man, this brings me back. I don't remember my first creature card played. I do remember the first devastating loss I incurred though. I had purchased my first two starter decks, both unlimited, and an Arabian Nights booster pack, I pulled these funky lands as rares, and was disappointed because I wanted a Force of Nature, or a Lord of the Pit, not the ability to get both blue and black, or red and white mana.
I "built" a deck, basically throwing all my red and green cards together because that was what I needed to do to get 60 cards that "worked" together. I played against some randoms at a common area and the guy I played against dropped a turn 3 Sengir Vampire with the help of two swamps, a turn two Sol Ring and a Dark Ritual.
My Kird Ape watched in disbelief as I first saw, what at the time, in my opinion, was the coolest damned card ever made. I had just barely heard of this "new game" and wanted to give it a try. I was straight up outmatched by that Sengir, but I started playing black immediately after that. Sengir is still my favorite card!
No idea what the actual first one was, but the one that I remember most clearly was Raging Minotaur out of Portal, after I got the starter decks as a birthday present from someone.

[Pr]Jaya | Estrid | A rotating cast of decks built out of my box.
I think it was Wing Drake. I was playing at comic-con where I started playing Magic the Gathering with a shop keeper with starter decks. It was quite a memorable game too.
I remember being given a Thornscape Familiar by a friend since I was really into bugs when I started playing (4th grade), but as for the first card I ever cast...probably something from the starter deck that had Vizzerdrix in it. I remember another friend and I pulling an all-nighter as he taught me to play (against his Trained Orgg)

Sacred Foundry into Isamaru, Hound of Konda in a Zoo deck. My brother got me into Magic and he was already established. He taught me how to play during an all-nighter the night before when we went to my first PTQ. Was groggy as all get out but kept guzzling coffee. I got 9th, missing top 8 by tiebreaker. I must have run really well. I still remember the look on his face when we met up after 3 matches and I told him I was 3-0.
It's been many years.. but I probably played a basic swamp as first card, because as a noob on mtg - was impressed by Phyrexian Gargantua and wanted that creature on my team. Did manage to cast it, but can't remember exactly anymore what else I cast before getting to six mana.
Plains, Benalish Hero.
I wasn't sure what exactly banding did, but the Hero was mentioned in the booklet that explained the rules, so it HAD to be good.
Oh man. I can remember the first rare I ever pulled from a pack (Wheel of Sun and Moon), but I haven't the foggiest what happened in my first game. I know I opened a Shadowmoor Fat Pack and slapped together a 125 card 5 color mishmash, and a friend of mine came over and taught me how to play (incorrectly, as a quick search online revealed). However, I can barely remember what was in the deck that I used, since it was so quickly taken apart to build a 60 card deck. A bunch of terrible Shadowmoor commons. Woeleecher, I think. Some cohorts. Briarberry Cohort might have been it, since its CMC is low enough.
pretty casual deck, it was not even a 60 card deck, heck we didn't even played correctly back on those days.
i remember that we used the land cards as the home of the creature and that it cannot be used again until the creature was dead, or something like that, crazy stuff.
I don't remember what my true first card was, but I do know my first deck was some janky 80+ card green deck. My first real deck was a mono black deck my cousin helped me build. This was also the first deck for which I actually bought singles.
I had purchased a couple "bulk" lots on eBay and one of the cards in the lot (with a few good cards for mono black) was a "black-bordered" Royal Assassin. In reality, it was a revised Royal Assassin that someone sharpied the borders in. This is the first specific card I ever remember actually playing (along with Hypnotic Specter and Bad Moon) and, for a long time, Royal Assassin was my favorite card (second now only to Birds of Paradise).
I actually still have that card and while it isn't worth anything because of the sharpied borders, it is still a card I have no intention of getting rid of.
probably forest into defiant elf or forest, then pass, 2nd turn another forest into elvish warrior. I started in Original Mirrodin but had a lot of Onslaught block

Mine was Clot Sliver, I think. It's all a blur.
T1: Island go.
Then on opponent's T1 EOT, tap Island, cast Ancestral Recall.
Although I'm a Red Player, I began being Blue first.

The first card I fell "in love" with wasFire Covenant.
My first deck involved Binding Agony into Fire Covenant.

Yes, I know I started not long ago.
The first card I was really excited about (that was spoiled, or rather is being spoiled) is Thalia, Heretic Cathar.

other cards in the deck included Phyrexian Bloodstock and Barbarian Outcast, hell the art back on those days was great!

Almost 20 years later and I got to make the same opening play from my Edric EDH deck.
