I enjoy the style of artists like Justin Sweet, Nils Hamm, and Seb McKinnon. I wouldn't want to see a whole mtg set by them, but I enjoy the variety they provide with their style.
With Theros spoilers in full swing (and I'm loving the art so far) it's time to visit another classic mtg artist. Douglas Shuler.
His art appeared in early sets including Alpha. He even did a couple of pieces for Kamigawa block, which I could not have told you without clicking the link. Speaking of which...
I love the original Serra Angel art, and it is so iconic at this point, isn't it? Why they don't just pony up the cash to get the rights to it again and then use it is beyond me!
I always thought his Force of Nature looked like the predator. This was not a bad thing for 16 year old me.
Thou shalt not have others of the same Legendary before me Thou shalt not frame images with the modern card face Thou shalt not change rules in vain Remember the Reserved List to keep it holy Honor thy Slivers and the symmetry of their abilities Thou shalt not kill mana burn Thou shalt not sacrifice depth for accessibility Thou shalt not steal combat damage from the stack Thou shalt tell a story through thy cards All must be one
Peace is a lie, there is only passion.
Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.
The Force shall free me.
To be honest, I'm not really a fan of his art, and I haven't played Magic since those days to be nostalgic about any of his pieces, but amongst his artworks, Chandler stands out for me - I like how realistic he portrays the character.

I'd like to see Anson Maddocks voted on.
I'll edit my vote for the overall tally so as not to have three posts by myself in a row. The winner, based on HMs is that striking Mirage Island
With Theros spoilers still going on, another old-time artist sounds like a good idea. Anson Maddocks it is!
