I'm buying an Imperial Seal for my son & I'm concerned that it's the real deal.
Firstly ; Very low starting price. The seller had it on auction starting bid £30.00 but I offered £95.00 which was accepted.
Secondly ; He was also selling a Tolarian Academy which doesn't look right as the text appears to be different from others (slightly different spacing).
Thirdly ; The seller was also selling other high value cards with a low starting price ; all apparently bought from a car boot
sale.
The auction photos are too difficult to make a determination from. I would wait until you have physical possession of the card and examine the card in person. If you're still unsure that take some close ups.
While you're at it, buy a loupe, it'll reveal a lot about the card you're looking at.
Does the surface on the back feel dry or slippery like plastic? It looks fake to me because the white is so white, but that set did have some pretty white borders.
A "too white" border is a poor metric to determine if a card is legitimate or not. In other words, if a card is yellowed, it's a good indicator of legitimacy. If the card has pure white borders, then you need to look elsewhere on the card.
I own pack opened cards that run the gamut of "perfect white" to "very yellow". They are all from a smoke free home but all were stored differently for the last 20 years. It's how the card is stored that taints the border. If they were stored correctly, then they would all have pristine borders. But as an 18 year old kid setting his sights on college, I had no idea about any of that stuf. ::sigh::...
Is it a gift for casual play or will it be used in tournaments? Cuz if it is just for the bling value, perhaps spending the cash on equities is probably better than speculating on cardboard..
The poster made it very clear what he bought the card for. I tend to agree however, If the poster wanted to invest in equities, he would have posted on the Motley Fool forum*.
