I have a very small youtube channel in which I am playing tournament decks from 1994-2002 using ManaLink 3.0. I asked in slightlymagic if I can use Manalink 3.0 and record videos and they said yes but I would like to know if I can attach thumbnails to my videos with mtg card art without copyright violation. I did so by downloading the pictures from google images but after thinking about that and not being sure this was legal I removed all of them and instead I reworked my thumbnails with screenshots taken from the game deck editor. The thumbnails contain images of actual cards but they are part of the game itself, all images are in the deck editor. To give you an idea what I am talking about, this is my channel:
Edited: Sorry, I can't put the link, is not displayed so please search in youtube for "MTG Old School 1994-2002", sorry for the inconvenience.
Thank you in advance for any answer regarding my question, oh! I just forgot to mention... my channel is not by any way monetized, I am playing Manalink 3.0 and showing these tournament decks just for fun, I don't want to make any money of this.
So given you make Thumbnails of you playing whats in the actual video itself, and its your content as you made it, thats "should be" Fair-use and no problem.
Usually for a Thumbnail (and make it look slightly more professional) some kind of text is placed on it or something else to further make it underline that its also your "modification" as its your content that is the main part.
