Am I the only one that is put off by the blatant power creep? I remember making custom lands that people criticized for not ETB tapped because they were "strictly better" than basics. Now Wizards is just straight up printing dual lands that don't ETB tapped but you have to settle on one of the two colors. How are these not instantly slotting out basics? Especially with recent duals being harder than ever to have enter untapped? Am I missing something, or is the power creep on display just massive for this set?
The lands don't have basic land type, they are worse (in a sense ) than pain lands considering non-basic-types duals (or ShadowsOverInistradLands)
They are only good if you want to splash a color for less than 5 cards. In standard i can see Cycling decks using it. In older formats they will be the budget option.
The power creep of the set are on commons and uncommons.
You guys were compaining about too powerful and now we're back to too weak it was the reverse eariler
WHAT DO WANT IN MAGIC SETS?!?!
Besides you not even giving the MDFC a chance
If you give a kid a lolly and take it away, its way more of a problem than never have given the kid a lolly in the first place.
A set that is WEAKER and intentionally so will always be blamed and rightfully so.
It has a purpose to do it, but it only really has to do with the mistake of power creep, so the designers of the sets are to blame, not the people that have to actually feel the impact of it (aka the players).
----
If they had any skill of evaluating their own cards, they would aim to keep a real basic guideline for powerlevels of cards and carefully craft around it.
As it is now, they jumped over that guideline, crawled under it and danced around it ; they have no respect for anything anymore.
Expect the color-pie to wash up even more, with black getting enchantment removal and green/white sharing even more of their identity.
----
They sold a bunch of product by increasing the powerlevel, but with the very visible amount of banned cards in the last bunch of years the problem manifests itself very clearly for everyone to see and notice.
Decreasing power creep and intentionally making cards worse will be especially painful for people that play with older cards that still have the higher power creep, with which cards these bad ones have to compete with.
Choosing only one colour is a pretty big drawback and makes them worse than a lot of other dual lands.
The problem is that these lands are strictly better than basics*, which used to be a golden rule by wizards not to do. Not anymore it seems.
*Yes yes, sans land type, but unless the environment is going to super care about land types (and it doesn't look like it), it won't matter.
Still not fetchable with fabled passage, etc
But yes they are better than basics in multicolored decks that don't fetch lands or don't ramp basic land types.
...dual lands actually exist. And non-basic lands ALWAYS take the spot of basics. Having a choice between two types of mana that you’re locked into for the rest of the game is not a particularly powerful effect, just a useful one.
I absolutely love this set so far exactly because it’s not power creeped. They are finally toning it down by individual cars basis and encouraging synergy again.

Weight was a little heavy on power but now they shrinking the weights now hopefully back to Goldilocks and plus there's still truck loads of new edh toys in this set
I wouldn't play those lands in any format. Anyone who thinks these double non basics represent power creep needs to never publically evaluate a card again. These are a joke as a rare cycle. Uncommon at best. This is set is absolute trash, Wizards has proven they should stop revisiting planes.
I don't know how you can look at this set and see power creep, this set looks the weakest power set we've had in some time.
Ultimately there's always an urge to print powerful cards, powerful cards sell sets as people want to play with them, if nobody wants the cards as they don't see play, that = less packs sold and less profit for WOTC.
On the topic of untapped dual lands, this was badly needed, you couldn't have a situation of Shocks rotating out and no dual lands that didn't enter the battlefield tapped. The problem when the mana is bad and the dual lands all enter the battlefield tapped is it means the only aggro you will see is mono colour as aggro just can't afford lands to ETB tapped. Just look at the format that's coming up, you don't even need to see the rest of this set to basically know the format is going to be Uro ramp and Mono Red.
WOTC have got it wrong with a number of anomalies that should have never been printed and you wonder how they ever saw print in recent times, but still give me powered up sets over a powered down sets every day. This reminds me of Ixalan so far where the power level was just weak overall and it just wasn't fun as a result.
How do you not see power creep? Look at Ruin Crab. Look at Nighthawk Scavenger. Tell me those aren't just better versions of the cards they're calling back to. You all look at the set as a whole and see that it's packed with trash, and because of that you can't see the power creep for what it is.

Zendikar Rising actually seems like a fairly large power level drop from previous sets so far. Waiting to be impressed.
Get good sis, the set is trash

Other types of duals leave you the option, these dont.
Theyre not awful, theyre just not even as good as ice age's painlands.
But seriously if this set makes you yell power creep... well where have you been?

It's a loophole to add more lands to your deck and have a spell if you don’t need the land
